(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Kim Ki-seong = White House Council of Economic Advisors (CEA) Chairman Jared Bernstein expressed the opinion that we are still far from winning the fight against inflation.

Chairman Bernstein expressed his intention in an interview with CNBC on the 17th (local time).

His remarks came amid growing optimism in the market as signs of slowing inflation appeared, such as the recent rise in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Producer Price Index (PPI) in June that were lower than market expectations.

"It's not won. The mission isn't done. Our job isn't done, " Bernstein said in an interview.

But he added, "I'm glad to see some breathing room for American families."

Like Bernstein's view, many point out that despite the market's optimism, there are still inflation concerns.

CNBC reported that the US economy still has troubling problems such as rising fuel prices and a tight housing market.

Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond President Thomas Barkin also recently said, "The question remains whether inflation can subside at a time when consumers are still spending and the labor market is strong."

(서울=연합뉴스) 김기성 기자 = 미국 백악관 경제자문위원회(CEA)의 재러드 번스틴 위원장이 인플레이션(물가상승)과의 싸움에서 승리하려면 아직 멀었다는 의견을 피력했다.

번스틴 위원장은 17일(현지시간) 미국 CNBC 방송 인터뷰에서 이 같은 의중을 전했다.

그의 발언은 최근 6월 소비자물가지수(CPI)와 생산자물가지수(PPI) 상승률이 시장 전망보다 낮게 나오는 등 인플레이션 둔화 징후가 나타나면서 시장에 낙관론이 확산하는 가운데 나왔다.

번스틴 위원장은 인터뷰에서 "승리하지 않았다. 임무도 완수되지 않았다. 우리의 일은 끝나지 않았다"라고 강조했다.

그러나 그는 "미국인 가정들을 위해 약간의 숨 쉴 공간을 보게 돼 기쁘다"는 견해도 덧붙였다.

번스틴 위원장의 견해처럼 시장의 낙관론에도 인플레이션 우려 요인이 여전하다는 지적들도 많다.

CNBC 방송은 미국 경제에는 연료 가격 상승과 꽉 막힌 주택시장처럼 여전히 골치 아픈 문제들이 저류에 도사리고 있다고 전했다.

토머스 바킨 리치먼드 연방준비은행(연은) 총재도 최근 "소비자들이 여전히 지출을 하고 노동시장이 탄탄한 상황에서 인플레이션이 진정될 수 있을지에 대한 의문이 남아 있다"라고 말했다.

그는 인플레이션이 지속적인 하락 경로에 있는지 확신하지 못하는 상태라는 입장도 전했다.

시티그룹도 최신 보고서에서 "냉각된 인플레이션. 둔화하지만 여전히 긍정적인 일자리 성장. 이것들이 바로 연착륙을 의미한다"라고 전했다.

그러나 이를 위한 이상적인 조건들, 즉 회복력 있는 소비자 지출, 더 강력한 공급망, 에너지와 차량과 같은 핵심 분야의 가격 하락 등이 지속되지 않을 수 있다는 우려도 전했다.

보고서는 경직된 노동 시장, 높은 임금, 서비스 물가의 상승 위험 등은 낙관론에 방해가 되는 요소라며 "금융과 관련해 긴축이 없다면 인플레이션은 내년 초 다시 가속할 수 있다"라고 경고했다.
