America and South Korea have reached an agreement on how to share the costs of the 28,000 American troops on the Korean peninsula. Neither side has revealed the precise terms, but South Korea will probably pay more than then $924m it paid in 2019 and less than the fivefold increase demanded by the Trump administration. South Korea’s parliament still has to approve the deal.

Apollo Global Management, a private equity firm, said it would merge with Athene Holding, a life-insurance company it created in 2009. This will create a financial group with a combined market value of almost $30bn. The merger ends a lucrative fee arrangement between the two companies. Apollo already holds the biggest stake in Athene, which is also its largest client.

Congolese child soldiers and other victims of Bosco Ntaganda, a former warlord, will receive $30m in compensation, the International Criminal Court ruled. It is the highest compensation order ever made by the court. Mr Ntaganda was sentenced to 30 years’ imprisonment in 2019 after being convicted of mass murder, rape and abduction in the Democratic Republic of Congo in the early 2000s.

GE is reportedly on the brink of selling its aircraft-leasing business to AerCap, an Irish aviation-financing firm, in a deal expected to be worth more than $30bn. GE Capital Aviation Services is the largest remaining division of the firm’s once-mighty finance arm.
