Senate Republicans blocked an attempt by Democrats to open debate on the For the People Act, which would expand voting rights in America. All 50 Republicans voted against debating the bill, which is also known as HR1. Democrats needed to marshal 60 votes to proceed. The bill’s defeat comes as Republican lawmakers in states around the country attempt to pass restrictive voting laws.
미국 민주당이 투표권을 확대하기 위한 법안을 토론에 부치려 했으나 공화당 50명 전원 반대로 부결됐다. 법안을 통과시키려면 60명의 찬성이 필요하다. 현재 공화당이 집권한 여러 주에서는 투표를 까다롭게 만들려는 움직임이 있다.
The European Union opened a formal antitrust investigation into allegations that Alphabet abused its market power in the advertising-technology market. The probe—the broadest the owner of search giant Google has faced—will examine, among other complaints, whether it unfairly favoured its own ad-tech business over competitors by restricting their access to user data that power its offerings.

Mr Fauci said the variant presents the “greatest threat” to attempts to end the epidemic, as it is more transmissible than the other strains detected thus far. Vaccines, however, have proven highly effective against the mutation, which was first identified in India.

The Vatican also argued Catholic schools should be exempted from a proposed national day against homophobia.
