Microsoft unveiled Windows 11, the biggest overhaul of its flagship computer operating system since it released Windows 10 in 2015. The American software giant claims its “next generation” operating system will be better for remote work, more secure and more intuitive for users. A preview version will be available for app developers next week before general release later this year.

President Joe Biden struck a deal on an infrastructure bill worth around $1trn, roughly half of which is new spending, with a group of senators from both parties. That falls far short of Mr Biden’s original proposal, and omits many items on progressives’ wishlists, but such is the price of compromise. The agreement must now pass Congress, where both parties are likely to take issue with the details.

Ms Tikhanovskaya then took up his mantle, only to be forced into exile a day after Mr Lukashenko stole the election and declared himself re-elected as president.

The Federal Reserve further loosened restrictions on dividends and share buy-backs, which were slashed during the pandemic, for America’s biggest banks. The country’s central bank put 23 lenders through “stress tests” to judge how the institutions would respond to different financial crises. In a hypothetical recession, the Fed found banks could suffer nearly $500bn in losses and still meet minimum capital requirements.

Rudy Giuliani had his New York state law licence temporarily suspended for making “demonstrably false and misleading” claims about last year’s presidential election. An appellate court found it in the public interest to prevent the former mayor of New York City and personal lawyer of Donald Trump, a former president, from practising law, pending the outcome of a disciplinary hearing.

Reliance Industries appointed the head of Saudi Arabia’s sovereign-wealth fund to its board. India’s largest company is doubtless trying to sweeten a deal whereby the kingdom would take a 20% share in Reliance’s refining and petrochemicals arm in exchange for $15bn. The company also announced plans to invest $10bn in renewable energy over the next three years.

The Cowessess First Nation said that 751 unmarked graves had been discovered at the site of a former residential school in Saskatchewan, Canada. The discovery highlights the brutality of the Canadian government’s practice between 1863 and 1998 of forced assimilation by placing indigenous children in such schools. In May, the bodies of 215 children were unearthed at a similar site in British Columbia.
