Flash Flood Warnings Extend to This Evening in Texas (WSJ. 20250707)
Parts of Texas that were devastated by flash floods over the weekend, and left more than 89 dead, braced for more heavy rains through the evening. A summer camp on the banks of the Guadalupe River in the state's hill country said it was grieving the loss of 27 girls and counselors. Camp Mystic's longtime director was also feared dead. The search and rescue efforts continue today, with an unknown number of people still missing. The National Weather Service said some areas could expect up to 10 inches of rain today. A crew was forced to abandon ship after Yemen's Houthi rebels attacked it in the Red Sea yesterday. It's the first strike of its kind since President Trump announced a truce in May, after he said the group promised to stop attacking Middle Eastern waterways. The Houthis say their attacks are in support of Palestinians in Gaza. Earlier today, Israel's military said it carried out airstrikes on Yemen, following several ballistic missile attacks by the Houthi rebel group in recent days. Artificial intelligence company CoreWeave will acquire Core Scientific in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $9 billion. According to its website, Core Scientific is one of North America's largest owners and operators of high-powered digital infrastructure for Bitcoin mining and hosting services. And Andrew Hider has been appointed as the president, CEO, and board member of medical products maker Baxter International. Hider has served as the CEO of the Canadian automation and technology company ATS since 2017. The company says Hider will assume his responsibilities no later than September 3rd.
