Trump Says Intel’s CEO Should Resign Over China Ties (WSJ. 20250807)

President Trump has called on Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan to resign because of his past ties to China. The president appeared to be referencing Lip-Bu Tan's past business dealings in China. Tan's previous ties to China as a venture capitalist who invested in Chinese tech companies before starting to work in the semiconductor industry have also invited scrutiny from lawmakers. A White House official said that the president is committed to making sure leaders in cutting-edge sectors can be trusted by Americans. Intel didn't immediately respond to requests for comment. Russian President Vladimir Putin said he could meet President Trump in the United Arab Emirates after a Kremlin advisor confirmed Russia was planning for the summit in the coming days. Putin's comments came hours after Trump had said there was a "good chance" he would meet with the Kremlin leader. Putin dismissed the idea of meeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the near term, saying that the circumstances were far from being ready for such a summit. And the Bank of England has lowered its key interest rate to 4% from 4.25%, its fifth rate cut in a year. The UK central bank is navigating a recent pickup in inflation against a cooling jobs market, a challenge that also confronts the Federal Reserve.
