Illinois Governor Challenges Trump’s Plan for Troops in Chicago (WSJ. 20250826)
Illinois's governor, JB Pritzker, promised to challenge President Trump's plan to deploy the National Guard to Chicago. The Democrat called Trump's move unconstitutional and un-American. In a press conference yesterday afternoon, Pritzker said he'll take the administration to court. The clash highlights the rocky path Trump faces in trying to expand his troop rollout into more blue cities. American consumers' confidence edged slightly lower in August from the previous month. That's according to The Conference Board whose consumer confidence index declined to 97.4 from a revised 98.7 in July. Labor market fears drove the dip with views of current job availability declining for the eighth month in a row. AT&T will pay $23 billion to acquire wireless spectrum licenses from EchoStar, which owns both the Dish Network pay-TV brand and Boost Mobile's wireless service. The deal comes after the Federal Communications Commission told EchoStar earlier this year that it would investigate its compliance with federal requirements to build a nationwide 5G network. And Norway's sovereign wealth fund is selling its roughly 1.2% stake in Caterpillar, worth about $2.4 billion, citing evidence that Israel used Caterpillar bulldozers to destroy Palestinian property unlawfully. The sovereign wealth fund, which is the world's biggest, is also divesting from four Israeli banks on similar grounds. Caterpillar didn't respond to a request for comment. The Office of Israel's Prime Minister declined to comment.
