Google Can Keep Chrome After Antitrust Ruling (WSJ. 20250903)
In a win for Google and Apple, a US district judge ruled yesterday that Google can't pay to be the exclusive search engine on devices and browsers, but allowed it to keep its Chrome browser and high-stakes agreement with Apple. Google pays Apple more than $20 billion a year to be the default search provider on the Safari browser. Last year, the judge ruled Google illegally monopolized at the search market through those kinds of distribution agreements. But the judge said yesterday that the competitive dynamics of the marketplace were changing, largely because of artificial intelligence technology. We exclusively report that a Bitcoin mining company backed by President Trump's two eldest sons is set to list its shares on the Nasdaq today. American Bitcoin will trade under the ticker ABTC. The public listing comes days after the Trump family made as much as $5 billion on paper from a separate digital token, and it marks an expansion of the Trump family's crypto empire in the midst of ethics lawyers' concerns over the president's involvement in the industry. And the US is revoking Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing's authorization to freely ship key equipment to its main Chinese chip making site In Nanjing. TSMC said its validated end-user status for the site will end at the end of the year. The status has allowed TSMC to import American chip making equipment to its existing China-based facilities without having to seek separate US approval. The company said it's evaluating the situation and taking appropriate measures. The Commerce Department didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
