Cherry Blossom
Because winter in South Korea is freezing, Korean people are really looking forward to spring. Although the temperature increases every year, it is still cold in Korea.
During spring, many people go on picnics with their families, friends and partners. After the Korean War, the Korean government started to plant a number of trees on the mountains all over the country to re-establish the natural environment. Since there were not many buildings at the time, it was easy to establish national parks with many flowers and plants.
A huge number of cherry blossom trees were planted in Korea during the Japanese colonial era. Although it is the Japanese representative flower, Korean people are already used to it, and it is so beautiful. Local governments decided to plant more cherry blossom trees everywhere in 1960. As a result of this, Korean people are able to see incredibly beautiful flowers every spring.
Local governments spend their budgets on cherry blossom festivals for citizens every April.
People are able to see not only cheery blossoms, but also famous singers at the festivals for free. Because the festivals have become so popular, they are very crowded, but they are still widely loved by many people.
There are many places where people can enjoy the flowers.
The first place is Yeouido.
There are thousands of Cherry blossom trees in Yeouido. The festival usually starts the second week of April (depending on the weather) I went there once before, and I felt as if I was getting snowed on by cherry blossoms. Those who want to make a romantic mood for a date tend to visit this place. Everyone there seems so happy, and flowers are everywhere.
The second place is Seokchon Lake.
This place is also widely loved by domestic and international travelers, because of a huge number of trees and a beautiful lake. It is widely said that "this place makes me sleepy." It is so peaceful and people could lay down on a the grass. I also went to here with my wife a week ago and then had a good time.
Since many people visit Seoul for cherry blossom festival, I only wrote Seoul places. There are more places in Busan and the eastern coast of Korea.
