The Father, sovereign and holy; the Son, creator and redeemer; the Holy Spirit, comforter and indweller—this three-in-one God made man and woman to be like him, to reflect his image, to have a community relationship that mirrored the relationship of the Trinity, to declare his glory.
All God’s work was good.
But man and woman are the very good of creation.
Genesis 1:26 begins with God creating man and woman in his image and it ends with God giving them a job to do. The kind of creating God does is the kind only God can do. But he invited human beings to join him as co-creators. Not as equals with him, but as image bearers of him, to carry his image into the world.
“Then God blessed them and said, ‘Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground’” (Gen. 1:28). They were made to be image bearers first and to do their good work out of ther image-bearing identity.
But their understanding of their image-bearing identity came into question when Eve talked with the serpent and Adam stood silently by. The enemy challenged their identity. Bearing God’s image no longer seemed to be enough. They wanted to be an exact representation. They didn’t just want to reflect glory, they wanted to have glory of their own.

Ashley’s Note
What breaks your heart? There are certain things in our lives that resonate with certain souls only, something that others don’t quite understand. In my case, it pains my heart to see people living like a ghost—A ghost who has long forgotten what it means to share his or her naked soul and what it feels like to be genuinely connected with other souls. We are living in an age of a deluge of febrile content, information, and talks; but we have never been this lonelier before. This world is full of ghosts. And that breaks my heart. It’s a wonder how much God desires to heal the world that he would let someone like me to taste a glimpse of agony in his heart. And that’s a piece of Garden of Eden where he invites me to govern together, as an image-bearer of him.
I believe everyone deserves to have a safe yet playful place to explore, ponder, and replenish oneself with creativity and courage to share. Because we can only give what we have, finding such a community is extremely crucial. Remember. We are what we give. I pray with my heart that you might find our place to be one of your tables where you feed and nourish your soul before you go out to the hostile world. Eat well. And let us live well today.
Giving Table Members' Sentences with "Govern"
I anticipated that my life had been well managed by myself when I was in my twenties, but I misunderstood. I would never be perfect nor well managed by myself. Now I realized that when God intervenes in me, I am proud to be myself and enjoy the genuine identity in Him.
Govern means for me is not what I do with my ability or trying to accomplish to be better me, because I might fall apart when my power is gone. When I am under God's sovereignty and captivated by His thoughts and will, my life is secure because He governs in me.- J
'a battle for sovereignty'
When I give the sovereignty to God, I can govern the world around me as a co-worker of God like the time given to me, the relationship with other people, the emotional feelings swirling in my mind, the order of priority of life and the influences of the world beyond my life.
Then, what if I have the sovereignty of my own? That becomes the thing of Satan not mine. The delusion that I am the owner of my own life gives the enemy a chance to have the power to govern me and control the life of children of God. - D
Fill the earth and govern it.
I always wonder about this word 'govern', when I read Gen in the Bible.
What is 'govern'?
I'm not good at managing flowerpots. I got flowerpot this mother's day. I'm afraid of kill it again. For some reason, I wanted to save this time. I watered and looked at it more. It's been four days. My flowerpot is still alive.
I don't know yet what govern means in the Bible. But I can learn it's meaning while taking good care it. - C
