Lines out the door for pokemon Bread
Internship report by Jake
Making its return in almost two decades, Samlip (삼립) has released a set of bread with Pokemon characters on its packaging that contains 띠부씰(tti bu ssil) better known as stickers.
Read till the end to see how you can be able to guarantee one of these coveted stickers.
Each bread contains 1 sticker and there are 159 you can collect. The popularity has caused the bread to fly off the shelves and is almost impossible to get your hands on. The popularity is because the generation back then when it was first released who started to collect the first version of the stickers are awakened by a nostalgic feeling. Secondly, it is no secret that the popular KPOP group, leader of BTS, RM, has shared his interest with his fans in the Pokemon bread craze.
Currently, where ever you are in Seoul, you will encounter Pokemon-themed products. Pokemon has collaborated with Dunkin Donuts and Baskin Robbins to create a Pokemon-themed donut and ice cream. Baskin Robbin HIVE in Hannam has covered their store all with Pokemon.
Next to the HIVE is a bench with stuffed Pokemon plushies where JIN from BTS has recently taken pictures that fueled the Baskin Robbins location only more.
With weekdays attracting more than 1500 people, it can be said that the pop-up location is a great success. Inside HIVE CITY you are able to play games or chill out on the rooftop or buy Pokemon merchandise.
Because of the Pokemon bread craze, an outrage was also sparked, with people selling the bread on secondary markets selling for 4 times or more than what the bread is originally sold for. Some stickers are even being sold for over 40,000 KRW and people waste the bread just to get the sticker and not even eat it.
So how can you join the hype and get your hands on one of these? At the Baskin Robbins HIVE location in Hannam, you can get a ticket just in front of the stairs
Depending on what time you go, the wait can vary anywhere between 40 minutes and 1 hour and 30 minutes. On the ticketing machine, you can see what number was last called so you can walk around, enjoy an ice cream or enjoy a donut. Once your number is called you will exchange your ticket for a card.
The elevator can only take you to either the roof or the 5th floor from there you can walk down towards the 3rd floor where you will see a shop where you can buy merchandise. Eventually, you will encounter a Pokemon-themed vending machine that is filled with bread. You show the staff your card and he will stamp out a star so the other staff members can see you have claimed your bread. One bread cost 1,500 KRW and can only be paid by card.
However, make sure to be there early as the bread can sell out and the time of restocking is unknown. The only way you can tell that the bread is sold out is when there is basically no queue suggesting the bread has been sold out.
The event runs from 5 May till 19 June so make sure to check it out.
