다음 세상
작은 널빤지에 할머니는
촛불이 켜진 케이크를 차린다
그녀는 제물 위로 전언을 속삭인다
우리 혈통의 죽은 남녀들에게
그리고는 제물을 카라스 강 아래로 떠내려 보낸다
널빤지는 검은 물 위로 미끄러져
촛불은 황혼을 뚫고
강의 굽은 곳에서 사라진다
할머니는 선언한다
그것들은 무사히
다음 세상에 도착했다고
나는 이미 그 세상에 간 적이 있다
그리고 거기에 새(鳥) 덫을 놓았었다
단지 나는 몰랐다
꽃이 만발한 버드나무에서 내가 덫을 놓아 잡는 것이
내 친척들일 줄은
THE NEXT WORLD
On little boards grandma sets
Cakes with lighted candles
She whispers messages over them
To the dead men and women of our blood
And lets them float down the Karaš
The boards slide over the black water
The candles penetrate the dusk
And disappear round the bend in the river
Grandma declares
They've arrived safely
In the next world
I've been in that world already
And set bird traps there
Only I didn't know
That in the flowering willows I was snaring
My own kinsmen
