라스트코 페트로비치*의 무덤
우리나라 출신의 늙은 잡역부는
들었다 내가
워싱턴에 있는 록 크릭 공원 묘지의
라스트코의 무덤을 방문했다는 사실을
그녀는 말한다 매년
명절에는 케이크**를 만들고
초에 불을 켜지요
고국의 제 고인을 위해서이지요
그리고 오세올라 부족의 인디언들을 위해서이지요
그들의 묘지가 여기 있어요
우리 블록의 집들 지하에
내 이웃들이 알려주었어요
이제 내가 돌볼게요
그 세르비아 시인도
그에게는 어떤 연고가 없다 여기도 물론

An old charwoman from my country
Heard I'd visited
Rastko's grave in Rock Creek
Cemetery in Washington
Every year she says
On feastdays I make cakes
And light candles
For my dead in the old country
And for the Indians of the Osceola tribe
Their cemetery lies here
Since my neighbours told me
Underneath the houses of our block
Now I'll look after
That Serbian poet too
He's got nobody here either

*Rastko Petrovic (1896-1949) was a leading Serbian poet of the inter-war period. His bones were moved back to 'the old country' in 1985.
