The Ones Who Walk in His Promise

신명기 1장 36절 : 다만 여분네의 아들 갈렙만은 예외다. 그는 그 땅을 볼 것이다. 그가 마음과 뜻을 다해 하나님을 따랐으니, 그가 밟은 땅을 내가 그와 그의 자손에게 주겠다.

하나님은 약속을 성취하십니다. 그러나 그 성취는 우리의 기대와는 다른 길을 따라 흐릅니다. 우리가 원하는 방식이 아니라, 하나님의 방식으로, 우리가 예상한 시간이 아니라, 하나님의 때에 이루어집니다. 그리고 때로 우리는 그 완성을 보지 못한 채 멈춰 서야 합니다. 왜냐하면, 이 역사는 나의 이야기가 아니라 하나님의 이야기이기 때문입니다.

하나님은 그분의 역사 속에서 약속을 이루어 갈 사람을 찾으십니다. 약속은 누구에게나 주어질 수 있지만, 그 성취에 참여하는 것은 하나님의 마음에 합한 자들의 몫입니다. 그들은 하나님의 뜻을 품고, 하나님의 걸음을 따라가는 자들입니다.

하나님의 역사는 하나님이 주인이 되어 이끌어 가십니다. 우리는 그분의 큰 그림 속에서 한 조각을 맡을 뿐, 그 조각이 어디에 놓일지, 어떤 형태로 완성될지는 하나님께 달려 있습니다. 우리는 그 손길에 순종하는 존재입니다.

가나안 땅을 앞에 두고 모세가 느꼈을 깊은 좌절을 떠올려 봅니다. 눈앞에 보이지만 닿을 수 없는 곳, 하나님께서 약속하셨으나 내 발걸음이 멈추어야 하는 자리. 저 역시 가나안 땅에 들어가고 싶습니다. 하나님의 약속이 이루어지는 순간을 제 눈으로 확인하고 싶습니다. 그러나 하나님께서 제게 맡기신 길이 여기까지라면, 물러서서 그분의 신실하심을 믿고, 하나님의 인도하심을 따라갈 수 있는 사람이 되기를 원합니다.

결국 중요한 것은 내가 그 자리에 있는가가 아닙니다. 하나님의 약속이 하나님의 손으로 끝까지 성취된다는 사실, 그것이야말로 우리가 붙들어야 할 진리입니다. 약속은 우리를 위해 주어지지만, 그 과정과 성취는 하나님의 신실하심을 증명하는 길입니다.

하나님, 만약 제가 그 땅을 밟을 수 없다면, 제게 맡겨진 기도는 이것이어야 합니다. 다음 세대 가운데, 하나님이 찾으시는 마음과 뜻을 다한 자가 나오게 해주세요. 그들을 통해 하나님의 약속이 성취되는 역사가 이루어지게 해주세요. 약속을 지키시는 하나님을 신뢰합니다. 하나님의 시간 속에서, 하나님의 뜻대로, 하나님의 사람이 그 길을 걸어가게 해주세요. 아멘.

Deuteronomy 1:36 : Except Caleb son of Jephunneh; he will see it, and I will give him and his descendants the land he set his feet on, because he followed the Lord wholeheartedly.

God is always faithful to fulfill His promises. But His fulfillment often unfolds in ways that don’t follow our expectations. Not in the way we imagined, nor at the time we hoped for but in His way, and in His perfect time.

Sometimes, we must stop and step aside before seeing the promise come to pass. Because this story isn’t just about us. Iit’s about Him. His story. His purpose.

God is looking for those who will walk out His promises. His promises can be spoken over many, but their fulfillment belongs to those who are aligned with His heart. These are the ones who carry His will in their steps and follow His lead with their whole being.

God’s story is not driven by our vision, but by His. We are a single piece in a much greater picture. And only He knows where each piece fits and how the picture will be completed. Our role is not to control, but to trust and obey.

I often think of Moses, standing just outside the land of Canaan, the place so near, yet out of reach. The land he longed for, the land God had promised, and still, a place he would not enter. I imagine his sorrow, and yet also his surrender.

And I ask myself: If the path God gives me ends short of the promise, can I still be at peace? Can I step back and trust that His faithfulness will not fail even if I’m not the one to see it through?

Because what truly matters is not whether I reach the destination, but that God’s promise is fulfilled. That His faithfulness is seen, that His name is glorified. The promise is given for our sake but its completion is all about Him.
