신명기 11장
What You’ve Seen with Your Own Eyes
11:7 하지만 여러분은 주께서 하신 이 놀랍고 위대한 일들을 모두 두 눈으로 직접 보았습니다.
신앙은 나와 하나님의 이야기입니다. 나무가 자랄 때 줄기가 먼저 자라고, 그 줄기에서 가지가 뻗어 나갑니다. 하나님과 나의 관계는 줄기와 같습니다. 이 줄기가 튼튼할 때 비로소 나와 너라는 가지가 건강하게 자라날 수 있습니다. 하나님과의 관계가 바로 서지 않은 채로 다른 이와의 관계를 논하는 것은 뿌리 없는 나무가 가지를 내겠다고 하는 것과 같습니다.
이것이 신앙의 순서입니다. 우리가 먼저 보고, 경험하고, 그 경험이 우리 삶에 깊이 새겨질 때, 비로소 누군가에게 그것을 전할 수 있습니다.
하나님과의 관계에서 내가 먼저 무엇을 알고, 무엇을 경험했는지를 돌아보아야 합니다. 신앙은 말로 하는 것이 아니라, 먼저 살아내는 것이어야 합니다. 하나님이 하신 놀랍고 위대한 일을 두 눈으로 직접 본 사람에게 주어진 거룩한 책임입니다. 내가 경험하지 않은 하나님을 누군가에게 설명하는 것은 불가능합니다. 내가 가진 것 이상을 다른 사람에게 줄 수 없습니다. 그러므로 신앙은 먼저 살아내는 것이어야 합니다.
오늘, 이 자리에서 우리가 바라보아야 할 분은 하나님이십니다. 하나님이 먼저입니다. 우리는 주께서 행하신 놀랍고도 위대한 일들을 보았습니다. 그렇다면 이제 그 본 것이 내 삶을 통해 이어져야 합니다. 신앙은 반드시 본 것을 살아내는 데까지 나아가야 합니다.
주님 저의 삶을 돌아봅니다. 저는 무엇을 가장 앞에 두고 살아가고 있습니까? 주께서 베푸신 크신 일들을 경험하고도 변질되어 가고 있는 저를 봅니다. 오늘 다시 한 번, 주님께 저의 시선을 고정합니다. 나의 하나님, 나의 하나님. 보았던 것을 잊지 않게 하시고, 경험한 은혜를 삶으로 살아내게 해주세요. 하나님과의 관계를 바로 세우고, 그것을 온전히 전할 수 있도록 저를 사용하여 주세요. 감사합니다, 주님. 아멘.
Deuteronomy 11:7 : But it was your own eyes that saw all these great things the Lord has done.
Faith, at its heart, begins with your own story with God. Not the one you’ve heard from others, not the one you think you should have, but the real, lived story between you and Him. It's a lot like a tree. It doesn’t begin with the leaves or the flowers or even the branches. It starts with the trunk, that solid and grounded center. And from there, everything else can grow. The relationships you build, the people you care for, the way you show love to the world, all of that stretches out from your life with God. But if that part is weak or neglected, everything else starts to drift or break. A tree can’t grow branches without a trunk, and it certainly won’t last long without roots.
Sometimes I think we forget that this is the way faith is meant to grow. We want to say the right things, do the right things, even help others believe. But if we haven’t really seen or known God for ourselves, then what are we offering? You can’t explain God you haven’t experienced. You can’t give what you don’t already carry. That’s why what matters most is this. What have you seen with your own eyes? What has God done in your life that you can’t deny or forget, even if no one else saw it with you?
That kind of knowing, that firsthand experience, is what gives your faith depth. And from that depth, you will have something real to offer someone else. Faith was never meant to be memorized or performed. It was meant to be lived and then shared out of what’s been lived.
So today, instead of trying to figure everything out or prove anything or fix what's around us, maybe we just need to look again, honestly and quietly, at what we’ve already seen. Because the Lord has done great and marvelous things, and we were there. We saw them. We knew they were Him.
The question now is whether what we’ve seen is shaping how we live. If it isn’t, maybe that’s the place to begin.
Lord, I look back over my days and I ask myself what I’ve truly put first. You’ve done amazing things for me and still I find myself distracted and dulled, as though I’ve forgotten. But I don’t want to live that way. I want to remember what I’ve seen. I want the grace I’ve experienced to take root in my life in such a way that it bears fruit, not for me, but for others who are still waiting to see for themselves. So please, help me return to You again. Center me in our relationship. Help me to live what I’ve received and let that be the starting point of everything else. Thank You for what You’ve shown me already. I haven’t earned it, but I’ve seen it. Help me live it well.
