창세기 24장-27장
성경은 수많은 사람들의 이름을 통해 역사가 예수님께로 이어지는 과정을 지루할 만큼 상세히 기록합니다. 이러한 기록은 하나님의 계획이 얼마나 세밀하고 흔들림 없었는지를 보여줍니다. 성경 족보에 반복적으로 등장하는 “누구는 누구를 낳고, 누구는 누구의 자식이다”라는 구절은 단순한 이름의 나열이 아니라, 하나님이 예수님께 이르는 길을 특정 인물을 통해 이루시기로 이미 정하셨음을 드러냅니다.
그러나 창세기에는 이 계획이 위협받을 뻔한 세 번의 사건이 나옵니다. 이삭은 아내 리브가를 누이라고 속였고, 그의 아버지 아브라함 역시 아내 사라를 누이라고 두 번 속였습니다. 하나님은 사라를 통해 믿음의 자손인 이삭을, 리브가를 통해 야곱을 낳아 예수님께로 이어지는 족보를 이루실 계획을 세우셨습니다. 그러나 아브라함과 이삭의 연이은 잘못은 하나님의 계획을 흔드는 듯 보였습니다.
놀랍게도, 이 두 사건은 모두 다른 시대와 장소에서 동일한 이름을 가진 왕, 아비멜렉(“아버지는 왕이시다”)에 의해 밝혀지고 바로잡힙니다. 이를 통해 하나님은 인간의 실수와 연약함에도 불구하고, 자신의 계획을 이루시는 주권적인 능력을 보여주셨습니다. 믿음의 조상들이 초래한 위기조차 예수님을 보내 우리를 구원하시려는 하나님의 계획을 막을 수 없었습니다.
하나님의 “놀라운” 계획은 바로 이런 것입니다. 인간의 연약함이나 방해에도 불구하고, 하나님은 자신의 방법으로 그 계획을 이루십니다. 우리 삶에 어떤 어려움이나 혼란이 있다 하더라도, 우리를 사랑하사 아들을 보내신 하나님을 신뢰할 수밖에 없는 이유입니다. 그분의 사랑과 섭리는 결코 실패하지 않는다는 확신을 주기 때문입니다.
The Bible takes its time recording history through the names of countless people, all leading to Jesus. Sometimes, it might even feel tedious, listing one name after another. But it’s not just a long list. It’s a reminder of how precise and steady God’s plan has always been. Every “so-and-so was the father of so-and-so” isn’t random. It’s God showing us that He had already chosen specific people to bring about the path to Jesus.
But in Genesis, there are three moments where that plan seemed like it could fall apart. Isaac once lied, calling his wife Rebekah his sister, just like his father, Abraham, had done with Sarah two times. But God had already decided that Sarah would give birth to Isaac and Rebekah would give birth to Jacob, carrying on the family line that would one day lead to Jesus. Abraham and Isaac’s mistakes made it look like everything could unravel.
And yet, in both cases, the truth came out, each time because of a king named Abimelech, which means “My father is king.” Even though these kings lived in different times and places, God used them to set things right. It’s incredible, really, how God’s plan moves forward no matter what. Not even the failures of the people He chose could stop what He had already set in motion, sending Jesus to save us.
That’s what makes God’s plan so amazing. No mistake we make, no obstacle in our way, can stop Him from doing what He’s set out to do. So even when life feels uncertain or overwhelming, we can trust Him. The God who loved us enough to send His Son isn’t going to fail us now. His love, His plan, they’re unshakable.
