Summer of Myeongjae House

2015    2017    2019

Summer may be a little tedious season. It neither blooms like spring nor sheds like autumn. It does not snow like winter. Summer is not even a good season to take pictures because you can sweat even with a little walking when the weather gets hot. In such a dull season, the crape myrtle tree, which blooms for a long time in summer, is a very grateful being. In the summer, when flowers are precious, they show off their bright charm and add red to the monotonous scenery. The crape myrtle flowers create a stark contrast by their complementing colors with the surroundings filled with thick green.

In the summer of 2017, a new family member was added to Myeongjae House. It was a then three-month-old Jindo dog called "Eun-sil." She was a white female puppy, so pretty and tender. She was playing with a pair of my sneakers while I was using a bathroom. She followed around me, taking pictures, and bit my shoelaces. As a puppy walked around, the scenery of the old house got more friendly and lively.

Under Jangdokdae, which means a platform for crocks of sauces and condiments, I encountered a small but impressive scenery. The crape myrtle tree next to Jangdokdae finely embroidered the surroundings last night. The golden pollen glistened like stars sprinkled in the summer night sky, and the two-colored petals were placed in the just right place. It was an artwork by nature and put out there nonchalantly. It was a great joy to discover a small jewel hidden in such a place easy to be unnoticed. Immersed in that exquisite moment, I was able to appreciate the utter tranquility. A day in Myeongjae House is abundant, even compared to an expensive flower shop, as you can find such exquisite beauty in the front yard Jangdok.
