Late afternoon, sunlight gently sank down on the flowers in the garden. Elena visited Joseph's mansion. There were no experiments scheduled that day, but she felt compelled to speak. Joseph led her to the reception room, speaking more quietly than usual. His hand, pouring tea, paused for a moment, and he spoke quietly.

"Miss Wintering... Today, I want to talk about my heart, not science." Elena looked at him, astonished. His eyes were deep and steady, his voice low and firm. "When I was young, I loved a woman. She loved music and was much brighter than I was. We were engaged, but... she died of an illness. Since then, I... have been afraid to express my feelings in words."

Elena listened quietly. His confession felt like turning the last page of an old book—a story that was carefully told, but one that must be read. “After losing her, I distanced myself from people. I thought emotions were imperfect, love cruel. But when I met you… I felt those feelings again. At first, I was confused, then afraid. And now… I’m grateful.”

Elena couldn’t take her eyes off his words. She finally understood why he had always quietly watched her.

“You carried such hurt,” she said quietly. “And yet, you trusted me.” Joseph smiled at her. “You were… someone I wanted to trust again. And now, you’re someone I can trust.” Elena placed her hand on his. It was a comfort deeper than words, and at the same time, a quiet promise. “Then, just as you trusted me… I will give you my heart. It will be more precise than science, and last longer than starlight.”

They gazed out the window in silence. The garden was filled with the scent of lavender, and the evening sunlight cast their shadows side by side. That day, Elena embraced Joseph's past, and Joseph began to believe in Elena's future.
