다니엘은 바빌론에 살고 있었습니다.
다니엘과 그의 세 친구들은 하나님을 사랑했습니다. 그들은 하나님만을 예배했습니다.
다니엘의 세 친구의 이름은 각각 사드락, 메삭, 아벳느고였습니다.
느부갓네살 왕은 모든 사람들이 경배할 동상이 필요했습니다.
일꾼들이 동상을 만들기 시작했습니다. 그들은 동상에 금을 입혔습니다. 커다랗고 반짝이는 동상이 완성되었습니다.
왕은 모든 지도자들에게 동상 앞에 올 것을 명령했습니다. 사드락, 메삭, 아벳느고도 왔습니다.
"음악 소리가 들리면 이 위대한 동상에게 엎드려 절하라. 그러지 않으면 뜨거운 용광로에 던져질 것이다." 왕이 말했습니다.
음악이 시작되자, 지도자들은 동상 앞에 엎드려 절하고 경배했습니다.
그러나 사드락, 메삭, 아벳느고는 절을 하지 않았습니다. "우리는 절하지 않을 것이오. 우리는 오직 하나님 한 분만 예배하고 섬깁니다."
왕은 몹시 화가 났습니다. "용광로의 불을 더 뜨겁게 하라! 사드락, 메삭, 아벳느고를 잡아 손과 발을 묶어 불에 던지라!"
군인들이 세 친구를 불에 던졌습니다.
왕이 갑자기 자리에서 벌떡 일어났습니다. 그는 용광로 안에 있는 네 사람을 보았습니다.
누군가 사드락, 메삭, 아벳느고와 함께 있었고, 네 사람은 불 속을 걸어 다니며 이야기하고 있었습니다.
왕이 소리쳤습니다. "밖으로 나오라. 가장 높으신 하나님을 섬기는 자들이여, 나오라."
세 친구가 용광로에서 나왔습니다. 그들은 화상을 입지 않았고, 심지어 불에 탄 냄새조차 없었습니다.
하나님이 천사를 보내 그들을 보호하신 것입니다.
왕은 하나님을 찬양했습니다. 그리고 명령했습니다. "오직 하나인 진정한 하나님을 욕하지 말라. 하나님처럼 자기 백성을 구할 수 있는 신은 이 세상에 없다."
Daniel lived in a country called Babylon.
Daniel and three of his friends loved God. They worshipped only God.
Daniel's friends were named Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.
King Nebuchadnezzar wanted a statue for all the people to worship.
The workman began to build the statue. They covered the statue with gold. It was a big shiny statue.
The king sent a command to all the leaders. Everyone must come. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego came to the statue.
The king said, "When you hear the music, you must bow down and worship this great gold statue. If you do not worship the statue, you will be thrown into a blazing furnace."
The music began to play. The leaders bowed down and worshipped the gold statue.
But Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego did not bow down. "We will not bow down," they said. "We worship and serve only God."
The king was so angry. "Make the fire hotter! Take Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. Tie up their hands and feet. Throw them into the fire!"
Soldiers threw the friends into the fire.
Suddenly the king jumped up from his throne. There were four men in the blazing furnace.
Someone was in the fire with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. The four men were walking and talking in the fire.
"Come out," the king yelled. "Servants of the Most High God, come out."
The friends came out of the fire. They were not burned. They did not even smell like smoke.
God sent His angel to protect them from the fire.
The king praised God. He made a law. "People must not say anything bad about the one true God. No one can save His people like God."
