산은 떠날 수 없다

NOWHERE TO ESCAPE

산불이 나면 모든 동물들은 산을 떠난다.

그러나 산은 떠날 수 없다. 불이 꺼질 때까지 그 뜨거움을 정면으로 견뎌야 한다. 모든 것이 타고 검게 그을린 뒤, 동물들이 돌아와 묻는다. 얼마나 뜨거웠는지,

불이 어디서 시작되었는지, 얼마나 탔는지, 얼마나

힘들었는지, 그리고 지금은 괜찮은지.

산은 그 모든 고통을 견디며, 산불의 기록이 된다.

예술가들도 시대의 증인으로서 산처럼 삶의 불꽃을

정면으로 마주한다. 견디고 기록하는 것 자체가

예술의 본질이기 때문이다.

우리는 도망갈 수 없는 걸까,

아니면 도망가지 않는 걸까.

예술가들은 시대와 정면으로 맞서며 살아간다.

큰 업적을 남기는 것만이 예술이 아니다.

삶의 모든 것을 묵묵히 견뎌내는 것, 그 안에서 많은 것을 발견하는 것, 그 과정 속에서 예술가가 완성된다.

이 시대를 묵묵히 견뎌내며 예술을 이어가는 모든

예술가들을 응원한다.

When a wildfire occurs, all the animals leave themountain. But the mountain cannot leave.

It must endure the heat head-on until the fire is extinguished. Once everything is burned and

blackened, the animals return and ask: How hotwas it? Where did the fire start? How much was burned? How hard was it? And is it okay now? The mountain, enduring all of this, becomes

the record of the wildfire.

Artists, too, as witnesses of their time, face the flames of life head-on, like the mountain.

For to endure and record is the essence of art. Are we unable to escape, or is it that we simply choose not to? Artists strive to face their time

with courage.

Creating great achievements is not the only

form of art. Enduring life’s challenges quietly,

discovering much within, and in the process,

the artist is shaped.

I support all artists who, silently enduring,

continue the art of this era.
