고민의 땅
EMPTY LAND
자유의지는 나에게 주어진 광활한 빈 땅과 같다.
이곳에 무엇을 심을지, 무엇을 지을지, 이 땅에서
무엇을 할지 고민하게 만드는 넓은 땅이다.
만약 이 땅이 아주 작았다면, 불평을 하면서도
선택은 훨씬 쉬웠을 것이다.
제한된 자유나 어쩔 수 없는 상황이 때로는 큰 비전을 감당하지 못하는 나에게 위안이 되기도 한다.
하지만 아무리 넓은 땅을 가졌더라도,
내가 누구인지, 이 땅의 주인이 누구인지, 그리고
그 목적이 무엇인지 명확하지 않다면, 단 하나의 씨앗조차 심을 용기를 내지 못할 것이다.
자유의지는 단순히 선택의 폭이 넓어지는 것이 아니라내가 서 있는 자리의 의미를 깨닫고 그 목적에 확신을 가질 때 비로소 온전해진다.
어쩌면 땅의 넓음은 문제의 본질이 아닐지도 모른다.
무엇을 쏟아부을지 몰라 머뭇거리는 내가 진짜 문제일것이다. 씨앗을 선택하는 기준은 무엇이며, 목적성을 정하는 기준은 무엇인가? 이 땅과 나 사이에서 선택의 기준은 어디에서 비롯되는가? 그 기준이 명확하다면, 그리고 씨앗에 대한 확신이 있다면, 땅의 크기는
아무 상관이 없을지도 모른다.
자유는 선택의 다양성에서 오는 것이 아니라, 내 믿음의 확신으로부터 온다.

Art x Shift
Free will is like a vast, empty land given to me.
It is an expansive space that compels me to
ponder deeply—what to plant, what to build,
and what to do with it. If the land were much
smaller, making choices, even with complaints, might have been far easier. At times, limited
freedom or unavoidable circumstances offer
comfort to someone like me, unable to bear theweight of a grand vision.
Yet, no matter how vast the land may be, if I
lack clarity about who I am, who owns this land, and what its purpose is, I may not even
muster the courage to plant a single seed.
Free will is not merely about having a wider
range of choices; it becomes whole only when
I understand the significance of my place and
have confidence in its purpose.
Perhaps the true challenge does not lie in the
size of the land but in my own hesitation,
uncertain of what to pour into it. What determines the kind of seeds to plant or the purpose I
should pursue? Where does the basis for my
choices between this land and myself come
from? If that foundation is clear and I have
certainty in the seeds I hold, the size of the landmay not matter at all.
Freedom does not come from the diversity of
choices but from the conviction of my beliefs.
