아직도 열려 있다

정부가 모든 국민에게 지원금을 지급한다고 발표했다. 누구든 와서 받아가라고 열어두었다. 이것은 특정한 사람에게만 주어진 것이 아니라 이미 모두에게 열려 있는 혜택이다.
그래서 어떤 사람은 그 소식을 듣고 찾아가서 받고 어떤 사람은 몰라서 못 받고 어떤 사람은 알았지만 가지 않아서 못 받을 수 있다. 그러나 그 못 받은 이유를 두고 정부가 주지 않았다고 말하지는 않는다. 누구에게만 주었다고 말하지도 않는다. 이미 모두에게 열려 있기 때문이다.
그래서 실제로 받은 사람에게 내가 너에게 은혜를 베풀었다고 말할 수는 있다. 그것은 맞는 말이다. 그러나 그 말이 다른 사람에게는 은혜를 주지 않았다는 의미는 아니다. 은혜는 이미 열려 있었고 차이는 그 앞에서 무엇을 기준으로 움직였는가에서 드러난다.
나는 지원금을 받으러 가게 된 그 발걸음까지도 주신 믿음이라고, 이끄셨기에 선택된 것이라고 말하고 싶은 마음을 이해한다. 실제로 누군가는 그 소식을 듣고 움직였기에 결국 받게 되었다는 것도 맞다. 그러나 그렇다고 해서 가지 못한 발걸음이나 믿지 못한 발걸음이 배제되었다고 말할 수는 없다.
그 자리에도 여전히 모두가 받기를 원하는 마음은 남아 있기 때문이다. 이미 주최 측에서 지원금을 모두에게 주겠다고 한 그 결정은 모두를 향한 마음 자체이기 때문이다. 이것이 선택이다. 개인을 선택한 것이 아니라 지원금을 주겠다는 결정을 선택한 것이다. 그 선택 자체로 이미 모든 일은 이루어진 것이다.
믿음도 이와 비슷하다. 하나님은 이미 이루셨고 이미 선포하셨으며 지금도 그 소식은 계속 들려지고 있다. 여기서 우리는 비로소 그것을 은혜라고 부른다. 그렇다면 그 좋은 소식을 누구를 가르는 기준으로 볼 것인가, 아니면 모두를 향한 사랑으로 볼 것인가.
문제는 누가 선택되었느냐도 누가 받아갈 줄 알았느냐도 아니다. 그 지원금은 여전히 열려 있다. 누가 어떻게 선택받았느냐가 문제가 아니다. 당신이 누군가에게서 듣고 받을 수 있었다면, 아직 받지 못한 이들에게도 이 소식은 전해져야 한다는 것이다. 문은 아직도 열려 있다.

The government announced that it would provide support funds to all citizens and opened it for anyone to come and receive. This is not something given only to certain people, but a benefit already open to everyone.
So some people hear the news and go to receive it, some do not receive it because they did not know, and some know but still do not go. But we do not say that the government did not give it to those who did not receive it. Nor do we say it was given only to some. It was already opened to everyone.
So it is possible to say to those who received it, “I have shown you grace.” That is true. But it does not mean that grace was not given to others. The grace was already open, and the difference is revealed in what guided each person’s movement.
I understand the desire to say that even the step of going to receive it was a faith that was given, that it was something chosen because one was led. In reality, some people heard the news, moved, and eventually received it. But that does not mean that those who did not go or those who could not believe were excluded.
Because even in that place, there still remains a desire in everyone to receive. The decision of the organizer to give the support to all is itself a heart directed toward everyone. This is what choice is. It is not the choosing of individuals, but the choosing of the decision to give. Within that choice, everything has already been accomplished.
Faith is similar in this way. God has already accomplished it, already proclaimed it, and even now the message continues to be heard. Here, we finally call it grace. Then the question is this: do we see it as a standard that divides who is chosen, or as a love that is extended to all?
The issue is not who was chosen or who knew to come and receive. The support is still open. How someone was chosen is not the point. If you were able to hear about it and receive it, then this news must also reach those who have not yet received it. The door is still open.
