Good morning everyone. Today is our Dharma assembly on Guan Yin Bodhisattva’s enlightment day. Ok. So it’s hard topic to talk about. Enlightment. What can we talk about enlightment? We work so hard to become enlightened. Once you become enlightened, nothing matters anymore. Nothing is worth talking about. Ain’t it terrible? And yet lay people made such big deal of englightment.
모두 좋은 아침입니다. 오늘 관음보살 성불일 법회를 했습니다. 오케이. 얘기하기 어려운 주제입니다. 깨달음 말입니다. 깨달음에 대해 무슨 말을 할 수 있겠습니까? 깨닫기 위해 매우 열심히 하다, 일단 깨달으면 더 이상 아무것도 중요치 않습니다. 아무것도 얘기할 만한 게 없습니다. 끔찍하지 않습니까? 그렇지만 재가자들은 깨달음을 아주 큰 일로 여깁니다.
Actually for the Buddhist, enlightment is rather rather boring event. That’s why we have to celebrate enlightment days. So what is this enlightment, as you don’t understand Bodhisattva has to go through. They are enlightened already. That’s why they are Bodhisattvas. Agree?
사실 불자들에게 깨달음은 퍽 지루한 일입니다. 그래서 우리가 성불일들을 기려야 하는 겁니다. 그래서 이 깨달음이란 무엇입니까? 여러분은 보살이 뭘 헤쳐 나가야만 했는지 이해하지 못합니다. 그들은 이미 깨달았습니다. 그래서 그들이 보살입니다. 동의합니까?
There are small bodhisattvas not enlightened yet. we are a sort of, we don’t look at them as real Bodhisattvas. They are just Bodhisattvas in training. See, my Vietnamese getting better. Thanks to the TV program. Speaking on TV program, did you watch last night, you know, there’s Thursday’s TV program. Did you see the TV program? (inaudible) You have better things to do than watching Vietnamese TV program. And he was magnificent. Shall we say? Yes? He sang so well. He sang so well. His voice is getting better and He seems to be much better performer. No?

Anyway. Anyway, very impressive. So we invited him on. And Tax is very kind, he came up and he talked about his experience with Buddhism.

Anyway you know, Bodhisattavas, they are enlightened already. And then since they are Bodhisattvas, they have to work. Unlike rich people here, successful people, people who achieve success, we tend to retire. We said I’ve seen enough therefore I can retire. Actually Bodhisattvas once they achieve success, they work harder than before. Ok. So what do they do? You don’t know what they have to go through.
그나저나 여러분, 보살들은 이미 깨달았습니다. 그리고 그들은 보살이기 때문에 그들은 일해야만 합니다. 여기 부유한 사람들, 성공한 사람들, 성공을 이룬 사람들이 은퇴하려는 경향이 있는 것과는 다르게 말입니다. 난 볼만큼 봤으니 은퇴해도 돼, 라고 합니다. 사실 보살은 일단 성공을 이루면 그들은 전보다 더 열심히 일합니다. 오케이. 그래서 그들은 무슨 일을 합니까? 여러분은 그들이 뭘 헤쳐 가야만 하는지 모릅니다.
They are enlightened already. So by the time when they are done with the work, you know what they do? They are assigned to a new project. Ok. How do they continue? Now explain it to Susan. She wants to know. How do they do it? You know, they go right back into the womb. They work non-stop. As soon as they are done with this project, they go into the next project by entering the mother’s womb. Ok? That’s what they do.

You know why it’s so stressful for Bodhisattvas? Anyone knows? Susan! Why is it hard for Bodhisattvas? Because of this thing called 거인메이, 으인쯔메이, I only remember it’s 메이. Same concept. Because of the thing called in Chinese called 여인쯩이 Of course you want to send Shana, there Chinese character for her. 거인쯩위. 거인쯔미. Ah, I have a questions over here.

What is that, (Vietnamese) She has something, she has something to share with us. She said she has true experiences with Bodhisattva. Ok? Yes. Before in Vietnam, she only worshiped Guan Yin, she didn’t care about the Buddha. See, they can’t even know what they are talking about. They can’t agree.
뭡니까, (베트남어 청중) 그녀가 우리와 나누고픈 게 있답니다. 그녀에게 보살님과 관련된 진짜 경험이 있다고 합니다. 오케이. 전에 베트남에서 그녀는 오직 관음보살님만을 섬겼습니다. 부처님은 챙기지 않았습니다. 보십시오, 그들은 자기가 무슨 얘기 중인지도 모릅니다. 자기들끼리 동의가 안 됩니다.
So she built three stories house in Vietnam back then. So she didn’t do proper paper work. So she wanted to sell it, she didn’t have the proper paper work when she built it. So she wanted to try to sell it. She had to go to get the proper paper work. She had to sell it in hurry because she was trying to run, escape town and run to the US. It took several months and a lot longer than anticipated. She didn’t agree his will. That’s why it took several months.
그래서 당시 베트남에서 3층 집을 지었습니다. 제대로 된 서류 작업을 하지 않았습니다. 그래서 그녀가 그걸 팔고자 했는데 그걸 지을 때 제대로 서류 작업을 안 했었습니다. 그래서 그걸 팔고 싶어 했습니다. 제대로 된 서류를 얻으러 가야만 했습니다. 그녀는 마을을 떠나서 미국으로 도망가려 했기 때문에 서둘러 팔아야만 했습니다. 몇 개월이 걸렸고 예상보다 훨씬 오래 걸렸습니다. 그녀는 ?와 동의하지 않았습니다. 그래서 몇 달이 걸렷습니다.
Don’t you know that? No she corrected herself. She agrees the wheer but still took several months. In Vietnam, you want any kind of paper work, you apply agrees. And then her paper work to leave the country was finalized so she had to pray to Guan Yin to speed up the sale process. So she prayed to Guan Yin. She said if you help me, take care of the paper work. I swear that I will become a vegetarian. (in the morning) In the morning. (laugh)
그거 압니까, 여러분? 아니랍니다. 그녀가 스스로 정정합니다. ?에 동의했지만 여전히 몇 달이 걸렸다고 합니다. 베트남에서 어떤 종류의 서류 작업을 원한다면 동의를 신청해야만 합니다. 그러고 나라를 떠나는 서류 작업이 최종 승인되어서 판매 과정에 속력을 내달라고 관음보살님께 기도해야만 했습니다. 그래서 그녀는 관음보살님께 기도했습니다. 만약 저를 도와주신다면, 서류 작업을 챙겨주신다면, 채식을 하겠다고 맹세할게요, 라고 했습니다. (아침에요) 아침에 말입니다! (웃음)
That doesn’t count. And Guan Yin must be so desperate because as soon as she made a deal that she will become vegetarian for half a day, in the morning only, only in the morning! You know, she probably doesn’t eat the breakfast. And you know the Vietnamese, they eat lunch afternoon. So that doesn’t count as morning meal. Therefore she only lost breakfast if any at all.
그건 쳐주면 안 됩니다. 관음보살님이 매우 절박하셨음이 틀림없습니다. 왜냐면 그녀가 반나절 동안, 아침에만! 단 아침에만! 채식을 하겠다고 협상을 하자마자 말입니다. 여러분, 그녀는 아마 아침을 안 먹을 겁니다. 그리고 여러분이 베트남 사람들을 안다면, 그들은 점심을 오후에 먹습니다. 그래서 그건 아침 식사로 쳐주지 않습니다. 그래서 그녀는 아침식사만을 잃었습니다.
And after a week, lo and behold, paper work was finished. So she lined the houses on the newspaper, and within a week someone came and bought it. She sold 2 houses. The Vietnamese, the only way they buy houses with cash. 2 houses. Ok. She paid off the loan and then the house is bought in cash and she paid up all her loan, construction loan. She still made a lot of money left so she hopped airplane and went to the US, And she came here she bought two houses right away.
그러고 일주일 후에, 이것 좀 보십시오, 서류 작업이 완료됐습니다. 그래서 신문에 집에 대해 실었고, 일주일 안에 누군가 와서 샀습니다. 그녀는 집 두 채를 팔았습니다. 베트남에서, 집을 사는 유일한 방법은 현금으로 사는 겁니다. 집 두 채를 말입니다. 오케이. 그녀는 대출을 갚았습니다. 그래서 그 현금으로 집을 사가서 그녀는 짓느라 든 대출을 모두 갚았습니다. 그러고도 돈이 많이 남아서 비행기에 뛰어올랐고 미국으로 갔습니다. 그리고 여기 와서 바로 집 두 채를 핬습니다.
One more thing in order to ?, she left two girls back. It’s very sad about it. Brought only five kids along with her and left two behind. The both are still single. So a year later, she came back to pay them a visit. Oh back then, she has three houses, she sold two. So she had one left. And you’d better know that houses in Hochimin city is more expensive than Rosemead. (laugh)

So she went back to see them a year later, the two daughters and they stayed in the thrid house, and she was there and put her up in the room and her bed has some pillows very very dirty. So dirty she said wow this is so weird. Why are these pillows so dirty? We are not that poor, and so she threw them to the trash cans. Later she knew that her brothers ? gold in those pillows and the woman is so stupid she could’nt even tell how heavy the pillows are. She had no clue.
그래서 일 년 후에 그들을 보러 돌아갔습니다. 그 두 딸은 세 번 째 집에 지냈습니다. 그리고 거기서 방에 갔는데 침대에 어떤 베개들은 너무 너무 더러웠습니다. 너무 더러워서, 와 이거 참 이상한데, 이 베개들은 왜 이리 더럽지? 우린 그만큼 가난하지 않은데, 그래서 그것들을 쓰레기통에 버렸습니다. 나중에 그녀는 남자형제가 그 베개들 안에 금을 ?한 걸 알았습니다. 이 여자는 매우 멍청합니다! 그녀는 그 베개가 얼마나 무거운지도 몰랐습니다. 영문도 몰랐습니다.
So the brother came back and she said you know, I just threw away some dirty pillows. He said, which one? She said the ones are so dirty. He said, the most dirty one in the house? She said yes. He said, that’s the one I put all the gold that you sold two houses. She was nearly fainted. She told one of her daughter to drive her to look for the trash people. So one place collected all the garbage. So at that central collection place that the garbage trucks got together and they picked it up. So she asked about the dirty pillows. They said, yes, of course, they spot on these dirty pillows, we don’t want them. So we threw them out, too. So she prayed immediately that’s when she remembered Guan Yin. (laugh) And then pray to her. Please help, Please help.
그래서 남자형제가 돌아오자 그녀가, 내가 막 어떤 더러운 베개들을 버렸어, 라고 말했습니다. 그가, 어떤 거? 그녀가, 엄청 더러운 거 있잖아, 라고 했습니다. 그는, 집에서 제일 더러운 거? 그녀가, 응. 그가 거기 네가 집 두 채 팔고 난 금을 거기 다 넣어뒀는데. 라고 말했습니다. 그녀는 거의 기절할 뻔 했습니다. 그녀는 딸 한 명에게 말해서 그 쓰레기 치우는 사람들을 보러가게 태워달라고 했습니다. 그래서 모든 쓰레기를 모으는 곳이 있었습니다. 쓰레기 트럭들이 다 모여서 모으는 중앙수집소가 있었습니다. 그래서 그녀가 더러운 베게에 대해 물었습니다. 그들은 ‘네, 물론이죠, 더러운 베개들을 골라내어, 우리도 그것들을 원치 않아서 버렸어요’, 라고 했습니다. 그래서 그녀는 즉시 기도했습니다. 그 때가 그녀가 관음보살님을 기억할 때였습니다. (웃음) 그러곤 관음보살님께, 제발 도와주세요, 제발 도와주세요, 라고 기도했습니다.
What did you promise at this time? She said she was so in hurry, she didn’t think of any deal. You know I promise you I will make you worth a while. This woman is something else. So she went to the dumped place. 4, 5 o’clock in the afternoon. The five big garbage trucks there, lining up. For some reasons, usually they dumped in and they hurried home. And that day, for some reasons five trucks were just lined up there, they haven’t dumped their stuff yet.
그래서 이번에는 뭘 약속했습니까? 너무 급해서 어떤 협상도 생각하지 않았다고 합니다. 그럴 만한 가치가 있게 해드리겠다고 약속할게요. 이 여자는 뭔가 다릅니다. 그래서 그 버리는 곳으로 갔습니다. 오후 4, 5시였습니다. 거기 큰 쓰레기 차 다섯 대가 줄지어 있었습니다. 어떤 이유에서 보통 그들은 버리고 집으로 서둘러 갑니다. 그날 어떤 이유에선지 다섯 트럭이 줄지어 거기 서서 아직 물건들을 버리지 않았었습니다.
Because the five drivers were having happy hours, Vietnamese happy hour. So she went there she talked to those truck drivers who are having a drink and having happy hour meals, appetizers. She said she made an excuse, she lied through a teeth, broken precept. She said I put some paper work in that very dirty pillow, please help me recover them. For each car, they give fifty bucks per driver. 50 bucks are smaller than cover the happy hour meal. So she bought all five. But funny thing is that the first truck dumped out their stuff, she found the pillows. So her sister ran down to the dump hole and grabbed the pillow and stub in her belly and got all back. Then she paid them. Now everyone is asking for money. She had to give some more. After that, one of truck drivers drove her home.
왜냐하면 그 다섯 기사들은 해피 아워를 보내고 있었기 때문입니다. 베트남식 해피 아워 말입니다. 그래서 거기 가서 그녀가 그 음료와 해피 아워 식사와 애피타이저를 먹고 있는 트럭 기사들에게 말했습니다. 핑계를 대며, 천연덕스럽게 거짓말을 하며 계를 어겼습니다. 그녀는, 내가 그 아주 더러운 베개 안에 어떤 작업한 서류가 있는데 제가 그걸 되찾게 도와주세요 라고 했습니다. 그러고 각 기사마다 50불을 주었습니다. 50불로는 해피 아워 식사를 넘기기엔 작았습니다. 그래서 그녀가 다섯 명 모두를 샀습니다. 하지만 재밋는 것은 첫 번째 트럭이 물건을 버리자, 그녀가 베개를 찾았씁니다. 그래서 그녀의 여자 형제가 쓰레기 구덩이로 달려 내려가서 베개를 움켜쥐고 배에 넣고 돌아왔습니다. 그러곤 기사들에게 돈ㅇㄹ 지불했습니다. 이제 모두들 돈을 요구했습니다. 그녀는 약간 더 줘야만 했습니다. 그 후에 트럭 기사 중 한 명이 그녀를 집으로 운전해주었습니다.
Then I asked her what did you negotiate with Guan Yin? So she said she made a ceremony and offer Guan Yin a few fruits. (laugh) Something‘s wrong in Guan Yins thinking. It makes me feel that Mahayana, Guan Yin was so cheap. So she said, the funny thing is that the very important point, Funny thing she said back then she didn’t know much about Buddhism. She didn’t really know much and she really didn’t have much faith. But only thing she knew is that, she knew that ask help for Guan Yin when you need help.
그러자 내가 그녀에게 관음보살님과 뭘 협상했냐고 물었습니다. 그래서 그녀가 관음보살님을 위해 예불을 하고 약간의 과일을 공양했습니다. (웃음) 관음보살님의 생각은 뭔가 잘못됐습니다. 대승이, 관음보살님이 너무 저렴하단 느낌을 들게 합니다. 그래서 그녀가, 재밌는 것은 가장 중요한 점은, 재밌는 일은 그녀가 당시 불교에 대해 많이 알지 못했고 정말 많이 알지 못했고 신심도 정말 많이 없었습니다. 하지만 그녀가 알았던 단 한 가지는 도움이 필요할 때 관음보살님께 도움을 요청하는 걸 알았단 겁니다.
Amazingly Guan Yin knew full well, you think you can fool Guan Yin, you know Guan Yin knew full well that this person doesn’t really believe and she will try to get off the cheap after she receives help, she helped anyway. (sigh) That’s what enlightened people do. They are so so cheap, can be bought for so cheap. And ever since she belived in Guan Yin, still didn’t believe in Buddha. She only believed in Guan Yin because she saw how effective Guan Yin is. So she was hoping and counted on that Guan Yin continued to support. That’s why she offered fruit to Guan Yin very often.
놀랍게도 관음보살님께서는 너무 잘 알고 계십니다. 여러분은 여러분이 관음보살님을 속일 수 있다고 생각하겠지만 관음보살님은 이 사람이 정말로 믿지 않고 도움을 받은 후에 싸게 넘겨버리려 할 거란 걸 너무 잘 알고 계십니다. 어쨌거나 관음보살님께서 도우셨습니다. (한숨) 그게 깨달은 사람들이 하는 일입니다. 그들은 매우 매우 저렴합니다. 그만큼 저렴하게 살 수 있습니다. 그녀가 관음보살님을 믿은 이래로 여전히 부처님은 믿지 않습니다. 그녀는 단지 관음보살님만 믿습니다. 왜냐하면 관음보살님께서 얼마나 능력이 있으신지 봤기 때문입니다. 그래서 관음보살님이 계속해서 지우너해주시길 바라고 기대고 있습니다. 그래서 그녀가 관음보살님께 매우 자주 과일을 공양합니다.
anyway, that’s the nice thing about Guan Yin is that, she doesn’t care who you are. Whenever you are suffering, she will come and help you if you ask for help. So you should recite Guan Yin’s name more often. so that when you need her help she can come and watch over you and help you out. You know just like every single Bodhisattva, they are enlightened meaning that they are very happy, they have wisdom.
어쨌거나 관음보살님의 좋은 점은 여러분이 누구건 신경쓰지 않으신단 겁니다. 언제건 여러분이 괴로움을 겪는다면 여러분이 도움을 요청하면 와서 여러분을 도와주실 겁니다. 그러니 여러분, 더 자주 관음보살님의 명호를 염해야 합니다. 그래야 여러분이 관음보살님의 도움이 필요할 때 오셔서 여러분을 살피고 도움을 주실 수 있으십니다. 보살님 한 분 한 분은 깨달았습니다. 그 말은 그들은 매우 행복하며 지혜가 있다는 뜻입니다.
Everytime they are called back to Saha World, just like my master. You know, they stay in their mother’s womb. And they experienced the state called intermediate Skhanda body of confusion(28). So what happened is that after they die, after they are done with assignments, they move to next assignment. They go into rebirth again, they go to birth and death process. They become confused. They become confused again. Meaning to the Bodhisattva’s confusion is die or suffering. Did you know that? The Bodhisattvas when they look at confused person, ok. Deluded person like any of us, they see it as we are in die all straight?(2930). And yet they know full well. And they still want to go through what we go through.
매번 그들이 사바세계로 돌아오란 부름을 받으면, 마치 나의 스승님처럼. 여러분, 그들은 그들 어머니의 자궁 속에 머뭅니다. 그리고 중엄신의 미혹함이라 불리는 경계를 경험합니다. 그래서 무슨 일이 생기냐면, 그들이 죽은 후에, 그들이 과업을 마친 후에, 다음 과제로 넘어갑니다. 그들은 다시 태어남으로 갑니다, 생사의 과정으로 갑니다. 그들은 미혹하게 됩니다. 그들은 다시 미혹하게 됩니다. 보살님의 미혹함은 죽거나 괴로움을 겪는다는 뜻입니다. 여러분 알았습니까? 보살님들은 미혹한 사람을 볼 때, 오케이, 우리 중 누구나 같은 미혹한 사람들을 볼 때, 우리가 곧 죽을 거?라고 봅니다. 그렇지만 너무 잘 알고 계십니다. 여전히 우리가 겪어야 하는 것들을 겪고 싶어 하십니다.
We do things out of confusion, whereas Bodhisattvas, they do it by choices. Out of compassion. They decide, they intentionally go through this suffering in order to as part of their assignment. When you are born, you are born in confused. Just like us. They are confused like heck. You see my master’s biography. He was born, he was confused, angry and he was arrogant. You see that? That’s confusion right there. And that’s to the Bodhisattva is great suffering. So they go through these things and then they somehow cultivate and they go through a lot of hardship in order to become enlightened. Ok?
우리는 미혹함에서 살아갑니다. 반면 보살님들께선 선택으로 그렇게 하십니다. 자비로움에서 그렇게 하십니다. 그들은 의도적으로 그들의 과업의 일부로써 이 괴로움을 겪고자 결정하셨습니다. 여러분이 태어날 때, 미혹한 채로 태어납니다. 우리와 마찬가지로 그들도 지독하게 미혹합니다. 여러분 내 스승님의 일대기를 보십시오. 그는 태어나서 미혹하고 화가 나고 오만했습니다. 그거 알았습니까? 바로 그게 미혹함입니다. 그리고 그게 보살님들께는 크나큰 괴로움입니다. 그들은 깨닫기 위해서 이런 것들을 겪고 어떻게 해서 수행해서 수많은 고행을 겪습니다. 오케이?
So that’s act of great compassion. They choose to suffer like we do. So that they can know how bad it is for us. They realize that if they are suffering then they understand the extend of your suffering that makes them even more compassionate. ok? And the resolve becomes more stronger. That’s why they brought forth the resolve to help living beings escape suffering, difficulties. Alright? So we should as we attend this Dharma assembly, should remind ourselves how compassionate these Bodhisattvas are. They really really suffer.
그건 대자비행입니다. 그들은 우리와 마찬가지로 괴로움을 겪고자 선택하셨습니다. 그렇게 해서 그게 우리에게 얼마나 좋지 않은지 알 수 있습니다. 그들이 괴로움을 겪으면 우리의 괴로움의 연장선에서 이해하게 되어 그들은 더욱 더 자비롭게 만들어준다는 걸 알게 됩니다. 오케이? 그래서 그 결심이 더욱 강해집니다. 그래서 그들은 중생이 괴로움, 어려움에서 탈출하게 돕겠단 결심을 냅니다. 알겠습니까? 그러니 우리는 이 법회에 참석해서 이 보살님들께서 얼마나 자비로우신지 우리 자신에게 상기해야만 합니다. 그들은 정말로 정말로 괴로움을 겪습니다.
If you look at the life story of the folks tales of Guan Yin, you know that she went through a lot more suffering than most of us. You know one such story is Miao Shan, ok. She was born as a princess and very very pretty. She was of age, the father wanted her to marry a rich and powerful man. And she refused. She said your highness, I would agree to marry if my husband help me three kinds of suffering. The father said, what kind of sufferings, difficulties? She said the sufferings of aging, ok. What’s number 2? The suffering of illness. And number 3, the suffering of death. Her father said, the king said, you know, no one on earth can help these 3 types of problem.
만약 여러분이 민간에 전해지는 관음보살님의 인생 이야기를 본다면, 그거 우리 대부분보다 훨씬 더 많은 괴로움을 겪으셨다는 걸 알 겁니다. 그런 얘기 중 하나가 묘산입니다. 오케이. 묘산은 공주로 태어나서 매우 매우 이뻤습니다. 그녀가 나이가 되자, 아버지는 그녀가 부유하고 힘 있는 남자와 결혼하길 원했습니다. 그녀는 거절했습니다. 그녀는, 폐하, 만약 제 남편이 제가 세 가지 괴로움을 도와준다면 결혼에 동의하겠습니다, 라고 말했습니다. 아버지가, 무슨 괴로움, 어려움 말이냐?, 라고 했습니다. 그녀는, 노화의 괴로움, 오케아, 2번은 뭡니까? 질병의 고로움, 그리고 3번, 죽음의 괴로움입니다. 그녀의 아버지가, 왕이 말하길, 얘야, 이 지구상 누구도 이 세 가지 문제를 도와줄 수 없다, 라고 말했습니다.
The princess said then I won’t get married. So she refused, the king was very upset and beat her up, ok. And sent her away from the palace and made her work, live as a commoner. You know, you live like a princess, you never have to work any single day in your life. Now you become a commoner, you carry water, you clean the bathroom. Ok. So there’s a lot of suffering but she never complained.
공주는 그럼 전 결혼하지 않겠어요, 라고 말했습니다. 그래서 그녀가 거부하자 왕은 매우 화나가서 그녀를 두들겨 팼습니다. 그리고 궁전으로부터 멀리 떨어진 곳에 보내고 평민들처럼 일하고 살게 만들었습니다. 여러분, 살면서 단 하루도 전혀 일하지 않고 공주처럼 사는데 이제 평민이 되어 물을 나르고 화장실을 청소하고 오케이. 그러니 아주 많은 괴로움이 있었지만 그녀는 절대 불평하지 않았습니다.
And that only made king angry. She was undaunted by the suffering. See, and then so she asked the king, would you mind if I go to work for a monastery? A monastery so that I can as long as you don’t want me back to royal palace, send me to the monastery. So the king sent her to the monastery and ordered the abbot to really really torment her. So she worked her butt off. Her hands are full of callus and lots of scars. And she was very happy working every day. Everyday working hard.
그리고 그건 왕을 화나게만 만들었습니다. 그녀는 괴로움을 겁내지 않았습니다. 보십시오, 그러자 그녀는 왕에서 물었습니다. 일하러 절에 가도 괜찮을까요? 제가 궁궐에 돌아오길 바라지 않는 한, 저를 절로 보내주세요, 라고 했습니다. 그래서 왕이 그녀를 절에 보내고 그 주지에게 그녀를 매우 매우 괴롭히도록 명했습니다. 그래서 그녀는 뼈 빠지게 일했습니다. 그녀의 손은 굳은 살과 많은 상처로 가득했습니다. 그녀는 매일 매우 행복하게 일했습니다. 매일 열심히 일했습니다.
So finally the king was fed up, he ordered her execution. Throw her off the cliff. And so can you imagine the pain and suffering that knowing your father order your death? Ok. How many of us have that kind of experience? There’s a lot of suffering. Somehow she didn’t die and she was spare, saved by a god. So she lived in, she became a nun. She decided to become a nun so she lived in a small temple up in the mountain.
마침내 왕은 신물이 나서 그녀를 처형하라고 명했습니다. 그녀는 절벽에서 던져버라고 했습니다. 그러니 여러분, 아버지가 여러분의 죽음을 명하는 걸 아는 그 고통이 상상됩니까? 오케이. 우리 중 얼마나 많은 사람들이 그런 경험이 있습니까? 아주 많은 괴로움입니다. 어떻게 해서 그녀는 죽지 않고 어떤 신에 의해 구해졌습니다. 그래서 그녀는 비구니가 되어, 비구니가 되기로 결정하고 산 속 작은 절에서 살았습니다.
And lo and behold, the father king became very very ill. And so the doctor said the only way to cure your illness is to have the right hand and right eye of a nun. So they look everywhere for someone who’s willing to give their right eye and right hand to king. Which nun you think in the right mind with offer their eye and the right hand to save king. Of course, no nun sacrifice for the king.
그리고 이것 좀 보십시오, 그 아버지 왕은 매우 매우 병들었습니다. 그래서 의사가 말하길, 당신의 병을 낫게 할 유일한 길은 비구니의 오른 손과 눈을 갖는 것이라 했습니다. 그래서 그들은 왕에게 자신의 오른 눈과 손을 기꺼이 주고자 할 누군가를 찾아 모든 곳에 다녔습니다. 어느 비구니가 왕을 구하기 위해 오른 눈과 손을 제공하려는 마음이 있겠습니까. 물론, 어떤 비구니도 왕을 위해 희생하지 않았습니다.
So the rumor got to the nun Miao Shan, And she heard of it. She said, ok, in that case, I will offer my right eye, my right hand to save the king. So no only you have these physical pain, and the scar and now she has to give up her eye and her right hand. And she gave it to her father. The father got well. And he got well, he heard the story, he was so so touched, he personally went up to the nun’s temple in the mountain. And knelt down and apologized. Ok.
그래서 그 소문이 비구니 묘산에게까지 이르렀습니다. 그녀가 그걸 듣고, 오케이, 그런 경우라면, 왕을 구하기 위해 내 오른 눈과 손을 제공해야지, 라고 했습니다. 그래서 그녀는 이 신체적 고통과 상처뿐만 아니라 이제 그녀는 자신의 눈과 오른 손도 포기해야 했습니다. 그래서 그걸 아버지께 드렸습니다. 아버지가 나았습니다. 그가 나아지고 그 이야기를 듣고 매우 매우 감동했습니다. 그는 친히 산 속 비구니 절에 올라갔고 무릎을 꿇고 사과했습니다. 오케이
So you see, the Bodhisattvas, no only they go through unspeakable act of having, choosing to become confused again on purpose. And suffered and usually they endure a lot more suffering than the normal people. Ok .That’s what the Bodhisattvas do. In order to help others, they are willing to suffer. So today, on honor of the Guan Yin Bodhisattva’s enlightment day, we should all praise her, bodhisattva’s virtue, great compassion.
그러니 여러분 보십시오, 보살님들께선, 일부러 다시 미혹하게 되는 걸 선택하는, 이루 말할 수 없는 행동들을 겪을 뿐만 아니라 평범한 사람들보다 훨씬 더 많은 괴로움을 보통 견디십니다. 오케이. 그게 보살님들께서 하는 일입니다. 남을 돕기 위해서 그들은 기꺼기 괴로움을 겪고자 하십니다. 그래서 오늘, 관음보살 성불일을 명예를 걸고, 우리 모두 관음보살님을, 보살님의 덕과 대자비를 찬미해야 합니다.
And also we should resolve to be more compassionate, far even more compassionate our heart to help others. Ok, then we make bodhisattva be very happy and feel as worth her effort. Alright? That’s what I feel, that’s what I adore about my master’s example, as well. in that he’s so kind and so compassionate, you know?
그리고 또한 우리 마음이 남을 돕기 위해 더 자비롭고, 훨씬 더 자비로워지겠다고 결심해야 합니다. 오케이. 그렇게 하면 우리가 보살님을 매우 행복하게 해드리고, 보살님의 노력이 가치있다고 느끼시게 할 겁니다. 알겠씁니까. 그게 나의 느낌입니다. 내 스승님께선 매우 자애롭고 자비로우셔서, 내가 그의 사례를 흠모합니다.
He became confused, he followed Guan yin’s example. So he went back to his mother’s womb to experience the suffering of those who are confused. And then for his entire life, he helped a lot of people. Without making any demands. To the point when he gets older, he was so sick. He was in such great pain. Ok. And I find it so remarkable that he is willing to use his body to assume the sickness and illness of people he helped. So by the time he died, he suffered great great pain. You cannot imagine that kind of pain he had to endure.
그는 미혹하게 되었습니다. 관음보살님의 사례를 따랐습니다. 그래서 그가 어머니의 자궁으로 돌아가서 미혹한 사람의 괴로움을 경험했습니다. 그러고 평생 동안 수많은 이들을 도왔습니다. 어떤 요구도 없이 말입니다. 그가 나이가 든 시점에서 그는 애무 아팠습니다. 그는 아주 크게 고통스러웠습니다. 오케이. 난 그가 도운 사람들의 병듦을 알기 위해 그의 몸을 기꺼이 사용하고자 하는 것이 매우 놀랍다고 여깁니다. 그가 돌아가실 때 그는 아주 아주 큰 고통을 겪었습니다. 여러분은 그가 견뎌야만 했던 통증을 상상할 수도 없을 겁니다.
This is what Bodhisattvas do. So for our small part, let’s our gratitude. By sacrifice, make it a little bit more sacrifices in our lives to help others. Ok? Then I think that’s all they ask. Ok. give a little bit more. Sacrifice a little bit more. Don’t be the rest of us confused so our always seeking more comfort. Ok? Alright? Thank you for coming and let’s take a break.
