원래 다른 사람의 노래였다는 데, 처음 접한 건 Eric Clapton의 Unplugged 앨범에 담긴 곡으로서였다.
무작정 걷기를 시작하고 얼마 후, 이어폰을 끼고 음악을 들으면서 다시 이 곡을 듣게 되었는데, 이전엔 들리지 않았던 가사가 성큼 다가왔다. ‘이게 이런 가사였던가?’ 싶었다.

단순한 블루스 넘버를 넘어, 인간의 허영, 몰락, 관계의 진실성을 이야기하고 있다. 잘 나갈 땐 모두 친구지만, 불운해지면 연락 하나 없는 현실. 나의 인생이 바닥을 쳤을 때, 그제서야 주변 사람들의 진짜 얼굴이 드러나기 시작한다.
그런데, 더 중요한 것이 있다. 나를 사랑해주는 사람이 사라졌을 때, 나는 나를 사랑할 수 있는가? 외로움과 자괴감 속에서 사람들에 대한 신뢰를 잃었을 때, 그 시점이야 말로, 내 자신과의 관계를 다시 정립해야 할 때임을 깨달았다. 이후 나의 '걷기명상'의 가장 주요한 주제는 바로 이것이었다.
