2016 PCT Map Updates
Halfmile's PCT Maps 에서 2016년 PCT 지도 업데이트 사항을 공지했다. 투올러미 메도우즈(Tuolumne Meadows, CA)를 기준으로 두 구간으로 나누어 변동 사항을 공지되어 있다. 2016년 PCT를 준비하는 예비 PCT하이커라면, 최신의 지도를 다운로드 받는 것은 물론 기존의 정보와 다른 부분이 있는지 꼭 한번 살펴 보기를 바란다.

트레일에서 각 포인트들의 변동사항들이 주를 이루고 있으나, 여기에서는 재보급지의 변동사항과 정보들을 위주로 내용을 살펴보도록 하겠다. (원문을 그대로 인용하며 그에 대한 설명을 덧 붙이는 방식으로 진행한다.)

하이커 헤븐(Hiker Heaven)이 2016년부터 다시 PCT하이커 호스팅을 시작하면서, 2015년부터 더 이상 호스팅을 하지 않는다는 정보가 삭제 되었다. 이를 대체하던 Acton KOA의 정보가 삭제 되었다. (히맨은 당시 하이커헤븐으로 보냈던 재보급상자를 Acton KOA에서 받았다.) 따라서 마을인 아구아 듈세의 하이커 헤븐에서 재보급을 받는 것을 추천한다.

Mile 454.5: Agua Dulce information updated with the following information about Hiker Heaven reopening for 2016:
Agua Dulce [mile 454.5] is a small town on the PCT with a good grocery store, restaurants, pay phones, ATM and Hiker Heaven [AKA the Saufley’s]. Hiker Heaven will be open April 1 through June 30 in 2016, and for southbound thru-hikers in the fall of 2016. Hiker Heaven has a limit of 50 hikers per night, first-come, first-serve, no reservations, 2-night max stay. Hiker Heaven accepts resupply packages sent by USPS, UPS, FedEx or DHL. Include ETA on your package.

소노라패스(Sonora Pass)에서의 재보급 대행서비스 정보가 생겼다. 히맨은 이번 정보를 통해 처음으로 재보급 대행서비스의 존재 여부를 알 수 있었다. 소노라패스 뿐만 아니라 PCT 전체 재보급의 대행이 가능하다. (링크 참조. 상세한 내용은 다른 글을 통해 해당 서비스에 대해 다루도록 하겠다.)

에코레이크(Echo Lake)의 우체국이 더 이상 PCT하이커의 재보급 상자를 받지 않는다. 히맨은 이곳에서 재보급을 받았다. 하지만 바로 이전에 만날 수 있는 도로에서 차량 이동을 통해 큰 마을인 사우스레이크 타호(South Lake Tahoe)에서도 재보급이 가능하기에 큰 문제가 되지 않으며, 에코레이크보다 훨씬 좋은 환경이므로 사우스레이크 타호에서의 재보급을 추천한다.

소다스프링스(Soda Springs) 우체국의 영업종료시간 변경 및 숙소 정보가 업데이트 되었다. 16:00로 되어 있어 재보급에 지장이 생긴 경험이 있다. 휴식없이 재보급만 받은 후 바로 운행을 하기 위해 16시 2분 전에 도착하였으나, 이미 영업종료했다는 이야기만을 들을 수 있었다. 따라서 영업시간 등의 정보는 참고용으로만 사용하기 바라며, 당일 재보급을 받을 계획이라면 최대한 여유있게 도착할 수 있도록 운행계획을 세우는 것을 권한다.
소다스프링스는 작은 커뮤니티이며 예비일을 가지기에는 여러 면에서 부족하다. 도로(Hwy40) 근처에서 노숙도 충분히 가능하지만, 휴식을 원한다면 인당 40달러의 호스텔 스타일의 숙소인 클레어 테판 롯지(Clair Tappaan Lodge)를 고려해 볼만 하겠다.(링크 참조) 히맨은 소다스프링스 우체국에서 한 부부의 초대를 받아 트러키에서 휴식을 취하며 재충전의 시간을 가졌다.

The Clair Tappaan Lodge [mile 1153.4] is 1.4 miles west of the Pacific Crest Trail where it crosses Old Hwy 40. The lodge offers hostel-style lodging at $40 per person, showers, laundry, and a hot tub. Hot meals may be purchased. The Lodge does not accept resupply packages but the Soda Springs Post Office is 1.9 miles away and has a small store.

벨든(Belden) 리조트의 정보가 업데이트되었다. 벨든의 우체국이 닫았다는 사실을 몰랐던 히맨은 우체국 주소로 보낸 상자의 향방을 알 수가 없었다. 하지만 우연히 다른 하이커와 함께 근처 트레일 엔젤의 호스팅 장소인 리틀헤이븐(Little Haven)으로 가게 되었고, 운이 좋게도 그곳에서 재보급상자를 찾을 수 있었다. 리틀헤이븐 뿐만 아니라 많은 재보급지에서 우체국으로 잘 못 보내진 PCT하이커의 재보급상자의 경우 트레일 엔젤이 직접 수령하여 보관해 주는 경우가 많으니 참고할 것.
벨든 타운 리조트(Belden town resort)에서도 재보급이 가능하나 UPS나 페덱스(FedEx)를 통해서만 가능하며, 재보급 상자 수령 시 수수료가 있다.
리틀헤이븐에서 도로를 통해 도보이동이 가능한(하지만 좁은 도로이므로 차량에 주의할 것) 카리부 크로스로드(Caribou Crossroads)에는 식당과 가게가 함께 있으며, 세탁도 가능하다.(유료) 햄버거와 쉐이크를 추천한다.

Mile 1283.4: Updated Belden information to the following:
Belden [Mile 1284.3] is a resort on the PCT, with a very small store, restaurant/bar, [www.beldentown.com, 530-283-9662], and The Braatens of Little Haven. The Belden Post Office closed in 2013. Note that Hwy 70 is a narrow, curvy, dangerous road with no room to safely walk.
The Braatens of Little Haven will hold packages for three weeks during June and July (small donations accepted to offset expenses).

빅레이크 유스캠프(Big Lake Youth Camp)에서 재보급이 가능하나 캠핑은 되지 않는다. 이곳은 청소년 수련원이라고 볼 수 있다. 캠핑이 가능했던 것으로 알고 있으며, 깊숙한 곳에 위치한 호수 주변에 실제로 히맨 뿐만 아니라 많은 PCT하이커들이 사이트를 구축하여 하루를 보냈다. 하지만 이렇게 정보 변동 업데이트가 된 것을 보면 그 장소 또한 캠핑이 불가하다고 했을 가능성이 크다고 판단된다. 그렇다고 육류를 제외한 빵과 샐러드, 과일등의 무료급식을 먹을 수 있기도 한 이곳을 그냥 지나치기에는 아쉽다. 또한 호수에서 블롭점프 등 각종 물놀이가 가능하다. 따라서 해당 장소에서 휴식 및 재충전의 시간을 가지며 캠핑 가능여부를 확인해 보는 것이 좋겠다.

스티븐스 패스(Stevens Pass)의 정보가 업데이트 되었다. 재보급은 UPS나 페덱스(FedEx)를 통해서만 가능하다. 히맨은 스티븐스 패스가 아닌 차량이동을 통해 작은 마을인 스카이코미쉬(Skykomish) 우체국에서 재보급을 받았다. 마을에서 머물 곳은 식당과 함께 운영하는 캐스캐디아 모텔(Cascadia Inn)이 유일하니 이곳에서 예비일을 가질 경우 참고할 것.(시설은 나쁘지 않다.)
딘스모어 하이커 헤이븐(Dinsmore’s Hiker Haven)이라는 트레일 엔젤의 호스팅 장소도 있으나 더 이상 하이커의 재보급상자를 받아 주지 않는다고 하니, 스카이코미쉬가 재보급에는 가장 좋을 듯 하다.

Dinsmore’s Hiker Haven [mile 2461.6] in the town of Baring 23.4 miles W of the PCT are trail angels [donations accepted] w/ camping, showers, bathroom, laundry, indoor hiker dorm with bunks, and kitchenette. Hitch W to Baring on Hwy 2 to the Baring Store [now closed, mile marker 41]. From the store go over the tracks and take the first left and down to the Dinsmore’s Hiker Haven sign.

The Dinsmores no longer accept hiker packages or mail. All mail will need to be General Delivery to the Skykomish Post Office. They now have a NO ALCOHOL policy. Hikers who show up with any kind of alcohol will not be allowed to stay.

작은 마을인 마자마(Mazama)와 윈쓰롭(Winthrop)의 정보가 생겼다. 마자마는 가게와 재보급 상자를 받아주는 장비점, 식당, 모텔 등이 있으며 트레일 엔젤이 있는 작은 마을이다. 마자마의 트레일 엔젤인 라벤송(Ravensong)의 PCT하이커 호스팅 장소인 라벤송 루스트(Ravensong’s Roost)는 9월부터 하이킹 시즌이 끝날 때까지 운영된다. (상세 내용은 링크 참조)
윈쓰롭은 마자마보다 트레일에서 조금 더 떨어진 또 다른 작은 마을이다.호스텔과 우체국, 도서관, 식료품점, 병원 등의 시설이 있다.
이 두 마을은 실질적인 마지막 재보급지라고 볼 수 있다. 이후 트레일에서 탈출이 쉽지 않으므로 남은 운행과 재보급 계획을 철저히하는 것이 좋다.
