조지아 대학과 조지아 공대(조지아 텍) 등 조지아 시스템내의 주립대학들이 내년도 대학 입시에서 SAT-ACT를 옵셔널로 전환하기로 했다. 당초 조지아 대학 시스템 내 대학들은 2021학년도 대입에서 SAT-ACT 시험 점수 제출을 의무화했었다.

따라서 조지아 대학과 조지아 텍 등에 지원하는 학생들은 금년도 지원에서 표준화 시험 점수를 제출하지 않아도 된다. 

USG 발표에 따르면 USG는 "여러 번의 시험일자가 취소되어 시험 이용이 제한되고 학생들에게 부정적인 영향을 준 봄과 여름 동안 시험 이용 가능성을 모니터링한 후 이 결정을 내렸다"고 말했다.

하버드, 예일을 비롯해 미국내 수백 개의 다른 주립/사립 대학과 주립 대학 시스템은 코로나바이러스 유행으로 인해 최근 몇 달 동안 그러한 시험 요건을 포기했다.

조지아 주 소재 사립대학인 사립 스펠만 칼리지와 에모리 대학도 2021 학년도 입시에서 SAT_ACT 옵셔널 정책을 채택했다.

SAT, ACT tests won’t be required at UGA, other colleges next year

SAT or ACT tests will be optional for students at the University of Georgia and other University System of Georgia public colleges next year.

The change will allow students applying for spring, summer and fall 2021 admission to apply and be admitted without taking the standardized exams.

“USG made the decision after monitoring testing availability during the spring and summer, when multiple test date cancellations caused limited testing availability and negatively impacted students,” according to the USG announcement.

Hundreds of other colleges and college systems have waived such test requirements in recent months because of the coronavirus pandemic.

In Georgia, private Spelman College and Emory University have also announced they will not require standardized test scores from beginning students applying for its class of 2025, which will begin its studies in fall 2021.
