This Beautiful Fantastic

영국 동화

Our very own horticultural terrorist!

I can’t help but laughing out loud at the grouchy old man on the screen whose tone of voice resembles a bloke I once knew, the bloke who used to live next door and whisper "end of story" instead of "Let's call it quits" whenever he felt like teasing me over the phone.

This story goes with an old English widower who comes up next scene wearing a crisp shirt of vivid lavender. What a choice of colour against the backdrop (sure I've noticed and grinned at his effort). Well, are we seemingly expected to feel such a soothing sense of lavender at the presence of this rather brooding being? Just because he’s a flower boy?

I'd like you to peek into his garden, a paradise of the floral world in a film titled 'This Beautiful Fantastic'. The scathing old man (Tom Wilkinson) keeps talking his way as if menacing a hopelessly annoying neighbour on gardening. I giggle at his dry sense of humour. I envy him for the flowers in his weary abode in the heart of London. Crispy brit accent is a bonus.

The encounter on a stormy night with his next door neighbour Bella, a dazzling palette of blossoming flowers in his spring backyard, his life long journey of gardening alongside love story with his departed wife pose visually enchanting musically tantalising.

I linger for a moment and envisage an intoxicating scent and story of a future garden of mine, possibly like the one in this not-so-unrealistic fairytale. Then I breathe deep into the spring lavender blossoming alongside the street on the way to my own love story.
