결국, 재해석이란 무엇인가 라는 질문

What is reinterpretation? This is the question.

물론 우리는 그 의미를 안다. 단순한 사전적 의미는 원작을 바탕으로 새로운 작품을 창조하는 것이다. 하지만, 어설프고 조악한 모방이나 표절을 샘플링 혹은 재해석이라 우기는 작자들이 있다. 그 작자들에게 재해석이 뭔지를 보여주려고 <흑사(The Black Snake)>를 썼다. 그 작품의 모티브가 된 원작은 미셸 공드리의 영화 <이터널 선샤인(Eternal Sunshine)>이지만 “기억 삭제 업체(memory deletion company)라는 소스만을 가져왔을 뿐이며 두 이야기가 전개되는 방식은 제각기 완전히 다르다. 영화를 소설로 옮긴 부분도 있고 스토리라는 점 때문에 설명하기가 힘든 부분을 표로 대신한다.

하지만, 다른 장르의 예술, 특히 음악에서 우리는 재해석이 무엇이냐는 질문에 대한 훌륭한 답을 찾을 수 있었다. 누자베스의 <Blessing it>에 대한 헌정의 의미로 그 곡을 재해석한 팝즐(Pabzzz)의 <All we need is inspiration>이다. 트리뷰트 곡의 도입부에서 우리는 이 곡의 원곡을 정확하게 파악할 수 있지만, 그 뒤로 사운드가 전개되는 방식은 완전히 다르다. 더 이상의 설명이 필요한가? 일단 들어 보시길.

재해석이란 원작을 바탕으로 완전히 다른 자신만의 것을 창조하는 것이다. 어설프게 짜집기해 베낀 표절이나 모방은 (설령 장르가 달라진다 해도) 결코 재해석이 될 수 없다.

I’ve written <흑사(The Black Snake)> to show those idiots that confusing crude plagiarism with reinterpretation what true thing is. The original motive of that is the movie <Eternal Sunshine> of Michel Gondry. But the storyline of <The Black Snake> is completely different except common key-point source ”memory deletion company”. This example has some matter of difference between movie and novel and so hard to explain the difference. Take a look at the table here to find out the difference(either storyline or genre).

But in the other genre of art, especially music, we can find excellent answer to the question of what reinterpretation is. <All we need is inspiration> of Pabzzz is the answer. This sound is not only simple tribute but also innovative reinterpretation about <Blessing it> of Nujabes. We can recognize <Blessing it> at the beginning of <AWNI> even though the sound develops in a completely different way. Just listen. No explanation needed.

So repeat.

Reinterpretation is creating something completely different and unique based on original work. Plagirarism that copy the contents of original work in a clumsy way is by no means a reinterpretation.
