선술집이 좋아

토론토 Yonge길과 King 스트리트가 교체하는 다운타운의 고층 빌딩 아래 이 멋진 아이리쉬 펍이 있다. 바로 앞에 토론토의 중앙역이 있고 걸어서 조금만 가면 온티리오 호수의 항구가 있고 그 주변엔 많은 갤러리와 전시장들이 있다.

토론토 시절, 아마도 거의 일주일에 한번은 꼭 이곳 펍에 들러 기네스를 마셨었다.

salmon salad goes well with the dark guinness with some fresh rings of red onion.

bar tender needs to have a good trick to fabricate the draft beer a perfect glass of guinness with right thickness of foam.

아이리쉬 펍에 오면 아주 높은 원형 테이블을 볼수 있다. 키 높은 나무 의자인  stool도 없이 테이블만 놓여 있는데 소위 선술집의 탁자인거다. 그 둥근 테이블을 중심에 놓고 서너 사람들이 모여 서서 기네스를 마시며 환담을 나누는 모습은 그저 바라만 봐도 기분이 좋아지곤 한다.

화려한듯 하면서도 소박하고 진중한 기품이 흐르는 이곳 내부 공간도 너무 좋았다. 아마도 주로 홀로 오기에 이런 것들이 자세히 눈에 들어올 것이다.

NYTimes was reporting on the complexity of the war in Afghanistan by showing the powerpoint slide of the context diagram on the situation of the war-torn country.. actually i read the article a day before and i found it attached on the wall in the toilet in this Irish pub.

No.. i couldn't get away from whatever man-made complexity even in the restroom.
