Angry Trump Urges Israel, Iran to ‘Calm Down’ as Cease-Fire Teeters (WSJ. 20260624)
Continued fire between Israel and Iran despite a US brokered ceasefire drew an anger response from President Trump. He urged both Iran and Israel to, "Calm down," saying he's unhappy with continued attacks by the two countries after he announced a ceasefire between them. Hours after the truce went into effect, Israel said Iran had fired missiles at it and promised to respond with force. Meanwhile, Iran accused Israel of attacking it in three waves. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell reaffirmed the Fed's wait-and-see stance on rate cuts. In the first of two days of testimony on Capitol Hill. Rifts have opened among the central bank's officials with two policymakers, both Trump appointees signaling in recent days, they would consider cutting rates in July. Powell is facing pressure from the President to lower rates. Ahead of the Fed Chief's testimony, Trump said he hoped Congress, "Really works this very dumb hard-headed person over." US consumer confidence slipped this month to 93 reversing an improvement in May. That's according to the Conference Board's monthly survey. A Conference Board economist said that consumers remained nervous about tariffs even after the White House took steps to de-escalate the trade war. And US home prices rose at the slowest annual pace in nearly two years as mortgage prices continue to stretch affordability. The S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller National Home Price Index, which measures home prices across the country rose 2.7% in the 12 months to April.
