호세아 12장 5-6
To Return Is to Recenter
호세아 12:5–6 :그분은 만군의 하나님이시다. 그리고 ‘주’, 곧 ‘여호와’는 우리가 영원히 기억해야 할 그분의 이름이다. 그러므로 야곱의 자손들아, 이제 너희는 하나님께로 돌아오라. 그분께 돌아와 사랑과 공의를 실천하며, 항상 너희 하나님을 바라보며 그분께 소망을 두고 살아라.
호세아의 입을 통해 이스라엘의 타락을 엄중히 책망하시던 하나님께서는 그 책망의 끝에서 ‘돌아오라’고 말씀하십니다. 이 부름은 단지 죄를 뉘우치라는 경고가 아닙니다. 그것은 관계의 회복을 향한 하나님의 단호한 초대입니다.
그래서 호세아는 “하나님을 바라보라”고 말합니다. 바라봄은 단순한 시선의 이동이 아니라 마음을 담아 의지를 전환하는 행위입니다. 하나님의 초대는 사랑의 표현이자 선택의 요구이며 우리는 그 부르심 앞에 삶의 방향을 바꾸는 응답으로 화답해야 합니다. 하나님을 바라본다는 것은 그분을 내 삶의 중심에 두는 근본적인 전환입니다.
하나님은 호세아의 시대처럼 진실과 정의가 무너진 시대 속에서도 우리가 여전히 소망을 품고 살아갈 수 있다고 말씀하십니다. 그리고 그 소망의 근원이 바로 하나님 자신임을 밝히십니다. 더 나아가 그 소망을 품는 길이 무엇인지도 알려주시는는데, 그것이 바로 하나님을 바라보는 것입니다.
하나님을 바라보는 사람은 더 이상 기적을 기다리지 않습니다. 하나님을 향한 시선 안에서, 이미 우리가 기적 속을 걷고 있다는 자각이 일어나기 때문입니다. 오늘도 하나님께 소망을 두고 그분을 바라보는 우리의 삶에 기적을 살아내는 자들이 누리는 고요한 기쁨이 충만하기를 바랍니다.
Hosea 12:5–6 : The Lord God Almighty, the Lord is his name, and this is the name by which he shall be remembered forever. So you must return to your God. Maintain love and justice and wait for your God always.
Through the prophet Hosea, God delivers a severe rebuke against Israel’s corruption. But at the end of that rebuke comes a tender call: “Return.” This is not simply a warning to feel remorse over sin. It is a resolute invitation to restore a broken relationship.
That is why Hosea urges the people to “look to God.” To look is not just to shift one's gaze. It is to turn the heart and will toward Him. God’s invitation is an act of love, but it also demands a response. It calls us to make a choice, and that choice requires a reorientation of our lives. To look to God is to place Him at the center again.
Just as in Hosea’s time, we live in a world where truth and justice often seem to collapse. Yet even in such times, God tells us we can still live with hope. That hope is not wishful thinking; it is rooted in God Himself. And God not only gives us the reason for hope, He also shows us the path to it, by fixing our eyes on Him.
The one who looks to God no longer waits for a miracle. For in that gaze, we realize we are already walking within one. May quiet joy fill our lives today as we live out the miracle of hoping in God and turning our hearts toward Him.
