창세기 36장
Finding God's Love in Unexpected Places
성경을 읽다 보면 “왜 이 이야기가 여기에 나올까?” 혹은 “이건 뭔가 논리에 맞지 않는데…” 하는 순간들을 맞닥뜨리게 됩니다. 창세기 전반에 나오는 동생 아벨을 죽인 가인이 하나님 앞에서 목숨을 구걸할 때, 하나님께서 그를 보호하기 위해 표식을 남기시는 이야기가 그렇습니다.
또 창세기 36장에 기록된 에서의 족보도 그렇습니다. 성경은 예수님께로 이어지는 혈통을 중심으로 서술되는 것이 맞을 것 같은데, 왜 에서의 족보를 이렇게 자세히 기록했을까요? 저는 이것이 하나님의 무차별적인 사랑을 드러내는 깊은 메시지라고 생각합니다.
우리 인간의 관점에서 바라본 죄와 하나님의 관점에서 바라본 죄는 정확히 일치하지 않습니다. 성경은 예수님께로 이어지는 인류의 흐름을 담고 있습니다. 하지만 하나님은 선택받은 자들뿐 아니라 전 인류를 향한 사랑을 선포하고 계신다고 생각합니다. 하나님께서 이스라엘을 선택하셨지만, 땅끝까지 복음을 전하시려는 계획 속에서 창세기 36장에 에서의 족보를 기록하게 하셨다고 믿습니다. 마치 하나님께서 “야곱이 중요하지만, 에서 또한 내 사랑하는 아들이다.”라고 말씀하시는 것 같습니다.
저는 삶 속에서 하나님 앞에서 작아지거나, 큰 관심을 받지 못한다고 느낄 때가 많습니다. 그럴 때 저는 가인도, 에서도 살피신 하나님을 떠올립니다. 하나님의 무차별적인 사랑과 은혜, 그리고 인간의 생각을 뛰어넘는 크신 계획을 묵상하게 됩니다.
주님, 오늘도 에서의 족보를 통해 하나님의 사랑을 깨닫습니다. 주님의 사랑 안에 거하는 하루가 되게 하시고, 하나님에 대한 호기심과 깊은 질문을 통해 주님을 더 알아가게 해 주세요. 감사합니다, 주님.
As we read the Bible, there are times when we find ourselves wondering, "Why is this story here?" or "This doesn’t seem to make sense..." One such moment is in Genesis, when Cain, who killed his brother Abel, begs God for mercy, and God marks him with a sign to protect him.
Another example is in Genesis 36, where we read Esau’s genealogy. The Bible typically focuses on the lineage that leads to Jesus, so why spend so much time on Esau’s descendants? I believe this holds a deep message about God’s unconditional love.
The way we view sin as humans doesn’t always match how God sees it. The Bible traces humanity’s story leading to Jesus, but God’s love is not just for the chosen few; He loves all people. God chose Israel, but His plan was always to spread the gospel to the ends of the earth. That’s why I believe Genesis 36 includes Esau’s genealogy. It’s as if God is saying, "Jacob is important, but Esau is also My beloved son."
In my own life, there are times when I feel small or overlooked before God. In those moments, I remember that God cared for Cain and Esau. He watched over them. It reminds me of His boundless love and grace, and how His plans are beyond what we can understand.
Lord, through Esau’s genealogy, I am reminded of Your great love. Help me to stay rooted in that love and allow my curiosity and questions to bring me closer to You. Thank You, Lord.
