대구를 빼면 내가 경북의 대장이다

최근 전국적으로 한파가 이어지는 가운데, 오늘 아침까지만 해도 단순히 추운 날씨였지만, 돌아오는 길에는 온 세상이 하얗게 변해 있었습니다. 눈길이 미끄러우니 모두 조심하시길 바랍니다.

어제는 경상북도 경산시에 다녀왔습니다. 경산이라는 도시가 다소 낯설게 느껴질 수도 있지만, 대구의 동쪽에 위치한 위성도시라고 보면 이해하기 쉬울 것입니다. 주요 주거단지는 대구 수성구와 생활권을 함께하고 있으며, 특히 경산 중산 도시개발구역은 대구 수성구 시지마을과 깊은 연관을 맺고 있습니다. 이는 마치 미사강변신도시와 서울 강동구의 관계와 비슷한 모습입니다.

이번 경산 임장에서 가장 의미 있었던 두 가지는 경산 중산 도시개발구역과 지난해 12월 개통한 대경선이었습니다.

1. 경산 중산 도시개발구역

경산의 대표적인 아파트 단지는 중산자이1단지를 중심으로 형성된 펜타힐스 단지들입니다. 이 지역은 '중산 도시개발구역'을 통해 입주한 곳으로, 입주 5년 이내의 신축 아파트들로 구성되어 있습니다. 단지들은 중산지라는 호수를 둘러싸고 배치되어 있으며, 사업은 군인공제회와 대한토지신탁이 주도했습니다.

이 개발사업에서 가장 주목할 만한 단지는 펜타힐스 W입니다. 이는 범어동 W 아파트처럼 아이엘스 동서가 하이엔드 브랜드를 내세워 공급하는 주상복합 아파트입니다. 현재 계획에 따르면 올해 3월 분양 예정이며, 2029년까지 1,2단지를 합쳐 총 18개 동, 3,400여 세대 규모의 대형 단지가 조성될 예정입니다. 지하 6층에서 지상 49층까지의 주상복합 단지가 호수를 둘러싸고 들어서면, 그 규모에 압도될 전망입니다. 또한, 행정구역상 경산이지만 실질적으로는 대구 생활권이라는 점이 큰 강점으로 작용할 것으로 보입니다.

2. 대경선 개통

두 번째로 주목할 부분은 대경선 개통입니다. 대경선은 대구 지하철 1~3호선에 이어 네 번째로 개통한 광역철도 노선으로, 경상북도 구미에서 경산을 연결하는 통근형 전동차 노선입니다. 기존의 경부선 구미경산 구간을 개량하여 운영되고 있으며, 같은 구간에서 무궁화호 열차도 운행 중입니다. 또한, 대경선은 기존 철도 인프라를 활용해 비용 효율적으로 구축되었으며, 향후 추가 연장과 노선 확장을 통해 더욱 중요한 교통망으로 자리 잡을 것으로 기대됩니다.

대경선 2단계 연장 검토 구간

직접 탑승해본 결과, 동대구역에서 경산역까지 정확히 11분 소요되었으며(무궁화호 10분), 이는 동대구역에서 대구 도심인 반월당역까지 이동하는 것과 큰 차이가 없을 정도로 빠른 이동시간입니다. 총 노선 길이는 61km이며, 정차역이 7개뿐이라 역간 거리가 긴 편입니다. 속도 면에서는 수도권 GTX와 비교할 수 없지만, 대구에서는 GTX급 광역철도 역할을 수행하는 노선이라 할 수 있습니다.

대경선이라는 이름은 대구-경북선을 줄인 것이며, 대구·경북을 대표하는 광역 철도로 자리 잡고 있습니다. 향후 2단계 연장 계획이 추진되어 구미에서 김천까지 연장될 경우, 노선 길이는 80km까지 확대될 예정입니다.

그리고 경산은 소고기가 유명한 도시입니다. 정육식당에 들려서 점심을 먹었는데, 고기의 퀄리티도 좋지만 가격도 너무 저렴해서 서울의 2/3값에 정말 맛있는 식사를 했습니다. 근처에 가시는 분들은 꼭 소고기집 방문해보시길 바랍니다.

지방 광역도시 구조 변화

최근 부울경 메가시티, 대경권 메가시티, 그리고 대전·충남 통합을 논의하는 **대충특별시(이름이 참...!)**까지 지방 광역자치단체들의 구조 변화가 빠르게 진행되고 있습니다. 이러한 변화의 중심에는 철도 노선 개통이 중요한 역할을 하고 있음을 다시 한번 실감합니다.

Gyeongsan Site Visit: JungSan Urban Development Area and Daegyeong Line Opening

With the recent cold wave sweeping across the country, the weather was merely cold this morning, but on the way back, the entire world had turned white with snow. Be careful on the slippery roads!

Yesterday, I visited Gyeongsan City in Gyeongsangbuk-do. Gyeongsan may not be a familiar city to some, but it is best understood as a satellite city located east of Daegu. The main residential areas share a living sphere with Daegu's Suseong-gu, and in particular, the JungSan Urban Development Area in Gyeongsan is closely connected to Siji Village in Daegu's Suseong-gu. This relationship is similar to that of Misa Riverside New Town and Seoul's Gangdong-gu.

The two most significant aspects of this site visit were the JungSan Urban Development Area and the Daegyeong Line, which opened in December last year.

1. JungSan Urban Development Area

One of the most prominent apartment complexes in Gyeongsan is JungSan Xi 1st Complex, which leads the Penta Hills residential area. This region was developed through the 'JungSan Urban Development Area' and consists of newly built apartments within the last five years. The complexes are arranged around JungSan Lake, and the development project was led by the Military Mutual Aid Association and Korea Land Trust.

The most noteworthy residential complex in this development is Penta Hills W. Like the W Apartments in Beomeo-dong, ILS Dongseo is introducing a high-end brand for this mixed-use residential complex. According to the current plan, it is scheduled for sale in March this year, and by 2029, the 1st and 2nd phases will consist of a total of 18 buildings with approximately 3,400 households. With a structure ranging from six basement floors to 49 above-ground floors, the sheer scale of this mixed-use complex surrounding the lake will be overwhelming. Furthermore, while its official administrative location is Gyeongsan, it practically functions as part of the Daegu metropolitan area, which is a considerable advantage.

2. Daegyeong Line Opening

The second highlight is the Daegyeong Line opening. The Daegyeong Line is the fourth metropolitan railway line following Daegu Metro Lines 1-3, connecting Gumi in Gyeongsangbuk-do to Gyeongsan as a commuter train. The existing Gumi-Gyeongsan section of the Gyeongbu Line was upgraded to operate this line, with Mugunghwa trains also running on the same route.

After personally riding the train, I found that the journey from Dongdaegu Station to Gyeongsan Station took exactly 11 minutes (compared to 10 minutes on the Mugunghwa train). This travel time is nearly equivalent to commuting from Dongdaegu Station to downtown Daegu, such as Banwoldang Station. The total line length is 61 km, with only seven stations, resulting in relatively long distances between stations. While it does not match the speed of the metropolitan GTX lines, in Daegu, the Daegyeong Line serves a similar function as a GTX-level metropolitan railway.

The name 'Daegyeong Line' is derived from the abbreviation of 'Daegu-Gyeongbuk Line,' reflecting its role as a major railway for the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region. If the proposed Phase 2 extension to Gimcheon is realized, the total length will increase to 80 km.

Gyeongsan is also famous for its beef(korean beef bbq). I stopped by a butcher's restaurant for lunch, and not only was the quality of the meat excellent, but the price was also very reasonable. I had a delicious meal for about two-thirds of what it would cost in Seoul. If you're visiting the area, I highly recommend trying one of the beef restaurants.

Changing Structure of Regional Metropolitan Cities

Recently, there have been rapid changes in the structure of regional metropolitan governments, such as the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam (BuUlGyeong) Megacity, Daegyeong Megacity, and even discussions about integrating Daejeon and Chungnam into 'DaeChung Special City' (what an interesting name...!). At the center of these developments lies the opening of new railway lines, highlighting their crucial role in urban planning and regional connectivity.
