다니엘서 6장 23절
Unshaken and Unharmed
다니엘 6장 23절 : 왕이 심히 기뻐서 명하여 다니엘을 굴에서 올리라 하매, 그들이 다니엘을 굴에서 올린즉, 그의 몸이 조금도 상하지 아니하였으니, 이는 그가 자기 하나님을 의뢰함이었더라.
우리는 종종 믿으면 위기를 피할 수 있고 기도하면 현실의 고통에서 벗어날 수 있다고 생각합니다. 그러나 신앙은 위기 회피의 기술이 아닙니다. 다니엘은 믿었지만 사자굴에 던져졌고 기도했지만 그 현실을 피하지 못했습니다. 믿음은 그를 위기에서 멀리 데려가지 않았습니다.
그런데 성경은 “그의 몸이 조금도 상하지 아니하였으니.”라고 말합니다. 이 문장은 이상하리만큼 조용합니다. 위기의 크기와 강도에 비해 결과에 대한 묘사는 너무 담백합니다. 마치 아무 일도 없었다는 듯이 그는 사자굴에 던져지기 전이나 후나 같은 모습으로 현실로 돌아옵니다.
여기서 무너지지 않는 존재란 무엇인지, 상처 없이 견디는 믿음은 어디서 오는 것인지 하는 생각을 하게 됩니다. 아마도 그것은 스스로를 지켜낸 힘이 아니라, 지켜졌다는 감각에서 비롯되는 것이라고 생각이 됩니다. 믿음은 상황을 통제하는 것이 아니라 상황 안에서 부서지지 않는 자리를 경험하는 것이기 때문입니다.
세상의 사자들은 여전히 입을 벌리고 있습니다. 우리는 여전히 사자굴을 피해가지 못합니다. 그러나 오늘의 말씀은 조용히 그리고 분명하게 우리 안에 절대 무너지지 않는 것이 있고, 상하지 않고 돌아올 수 있는 길이 있다고 말하고 있습니다. 세상살이는 고단하지만 우리 안에 무너지지 않는 않고 상하지도 않는 하나님의 사랑을 붙잡고 오늘도 주님과의 교제의 깊이를 더해가는 하루가 되기를 바랍니다.
Daniel 6:23: The king was overjoyed and gave orders to lift Daniel out of the den. And when Daniel was lifted from the den, no wound was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.
We often think that if we believe enough, we’ll be spared from crisis; that if we pray hard enough, pain will pass us by. But faith is not a technique for avoiding danger.
Daniel believed, yet he was thrown into the lions’ den. He prayed, but that didn’t prevent the reality he feared. Faith did not lead him around the crisis.
And yet the Bible says, “No wound was found on him.”
This sentence is strikingly quiet. Given the scale and intensity of the danger, the outcome is described with disarming calm. As if nothing had happened, Daniel emerges from the den as he was before, untouched.
This makes us wonder what it really means to be unshaken. Where does a faith that withstands harm come from?
Perhaps it is not the strength to protect oneself, but the deep sense of having been protected.
Faith does not always change our circumstances, it helps us remain whole within them.
The lions of this world still roar. We still cannot sidestep every den.
But today’s passage gently, yet clearly, reminds us that there is something within us that does not break.
There is a way through which we return unharmed.
Life can be wearying. But may we hold fast today to the love of God that neither breaks nor bruises, and go deeper still into our communion with Him.
