Ranmore의 상냥한 린다와, RHS의 Wisley Garden을 추억하며
Surrey의 Linda, 그녀가 그랬다, " Wisley 가는 길에 꼭 Surrey Hill < 앨리자베스 여왕도 와서 기념한 >을 들러 보라"라고. Surrey hills는 영국 National trust 가 관리하는 국립경관 지역으로 영국 남동부의 두 번째로 높은 지역이며 아름다운 풍경이 숨을 멎게 하는 자연 풍경입니다. 제가 3개의 계절을 반복하며 방문했던 wishley Garden - RHS 학회 소유 정원은 Ranmore에서 바라볼 때 294m 해발의 Surrey hill 바로
그 너머에 있습니다. 나는 바로 그 언덕의 반대 대칭점에 높이 솟은 Linda의 집에서 바라보는 그 서레이 힐 풍경에 반해 린다의 집에 머물기로 정하고 위즐리 가든여행을 시작했습니다. 그리고 그곳에서 뜻하지 않은 보물 같은 개인 정원 몇을 위즐리 플라워쇼와 함께 즐기는 행운을 갖게 되었습니다.
제인 오스틴의 작품을 영화화한 오만과 편견이나, 제인에어 같은 영화 속에서 본 것 같은 그런 풍경의 들판을 거닐며 그 마을 일원처럼 어슬렁 대는 일은 왕립학회의 잘 정돈된 정원을 관람하는 것과 달리 정원의 긴
세월 여행의 신비감에 빠져들게 하여, 짧은 아침 시간을 오랜 시간의 깊은 교감으로 채워 주었습니다.
프랑스 화가 카미유 피사로의 풍경 그림 같은 Surrey hills 맨뒤의 지평선 구릉 Wishley Garden 같은 런던 외곽 시골마을 정원을 여행하는 또 다른 즐거움은 정원 방문길에 만나는 작고
개성 있는 개인 정원과 거리 정원, 숲 풍경을 동시에 즐길 수 있는 것입니다.
린다의 집에서 위즐리로 가는 길은 빠른 고속도로를 이용하는 길과, 서레이 힐과 숲, 그리고 아기자기한 타운의 도로를 지나는 길이 있습니다.
그렇게 위즐리 가든을 세 번째 방문하는 나의 여행에, 마을정원 투어가 특별히 추가되었습니다.
특히 린다의 마을 지인 분 중 호스타를 집중적으로 배양하며, 튜터스타일 주택에 이탈리안 가든 스타일을
접목하여 하나하나 스토리를 부여한 정원 투어는 호스트의 정원에 대한 열정과 사생활을 직접 관람하는
아주 귀한 시간이었습니다. 특히 이곳 란모아는 가각의 독립된 주택과 정원을 가진 살짝의 부촌으로
개인 정원과 그 울타리 혹은 마을에 잘 가꿔진 멋진 나무들이 장관인 곳이었습니다.
이렇게 마을 정원과 튜터 스타일의 전형적인 영국 집들이 수백 년 동안 가꿔져 온 아름다운 마을 구경을
마치고 위즐리 가든의 5월 숲을 보러 갔습니다.
위즐리의 5월 18일은 뜻밖의 찬 공기로 아직 전체적인 5월 정원으로 개화되지 못했고, 이곳 역시 기후 변화의 피해로 그 유명한 영국 소나기가 내리지 않는 건조한 날씨의 지속으로 곳곳에서 관수 시설 공사를 하느라 분주했습니다
이런 사정으로 "RHS.org 영국 왕실 원예 협회"가 위즐리 가든에서 주관하는 플라워쇼와 가든 소개는 2016년, 2029 9월 Show와 2023년 5월 방문을 결합하여 정리해보려 합니다.
처음 방문 이후 생태 정원과, 과수원 옆 푸드 마켓이 확장된 모습 그리고 매일 축복처럼 내려주던 소나기가
오지 않으므로 인해 변해가는 영국 정원의 모습은 정원의 아름다움 보다도, 정원가들이 이 기후변화 위기를
대응하는 기후 디자인을 어떻게 해야 할지에 대한 깊은 고민을 함께 하게 했습니다.
2023년 5월 위즐리 가든은 만병초와 초록 식물들이 무성하였으나, 뜻밖에 기대했던 정원 몇 곳이 아직 개화를 하지 않은 상태로 평년보다 전체적으로 약 3주-4주 정도 더 느린 개화를 보이고 있었습니다. 그러나 2016년 2019년 위즐리 방문 이후 Hill Top의 Wisley Libray 주변의 9번 Wild Life - 야생 생태 정원과, 10번 World Food Garden 세계 푸드 정원, 8번 -well being life garden - 주택 생활을 위한 리빙가든 같은 -
정원 디자인의 새로운 가치가 더해졌고, 위즐리가 컬렉션 한 여러 가든 디자이너들의 디자인 레이아웃을
탐구하는데 가치와 즐거움이 컸습니다.
2016 위즐리 가든 플라워쇼는 가든 전체 레이아웃의 우수함과 아름다움은 물론이고,
게다가 플라워쇼가 열리면 유럽에서 만날 수 있는 다양한 원예 업자들의 신품종이 만들어 내는 새로운
플랜팅 모델과, 가든 용품, 응용 물품을 다양하게 만나 무한한 가든 사업의 아이디어를 찾을 수 있게 됩니다.
그리고 위즐리 가든 라이브러리에서 접하는 다양한 가든 도서 들과, 가든 히스토리, 연구 자료 들 또한 가든 분야 직업을 가진 사람들에게는 꼭 멈춰 이틀쯤은 챙겨보고, 가든 투어와 함께 족히 3일에서 4일을 관람하면
좋을 듯합니다.
2016년 플라워쇼는 9월 초에 열렸는데 , 주로 여름 가을 소재로 정원 플랜팅을 얼마나 아름답게 가꿀지를
마주하게 되는 멋진 시간이었습니다 , 뿐만 아니라 봄에 개화할 온갖 종류의 구근류들의 낮은 가격에 구매해
가져올 수 있기도 했지요
오늘 이야기에서 충분히 다루지는 못하나, 위즐리 가든 2편에서 위즐리를 채운 세계 명 디자이너들의 각각의 작품과 그 구성을 좀 더 상세히 다뤄 보고자 합니다. 제가 학생들을 가르치는 과정에서 상세 지도를 위해 준비하는 자료 들이라 관람 포인트보다는 디자인 스킬과 시공, 유지의 주의점에 더 중점을 두고 바라보는 가든
기록이라, 좀 지루 할 수도 있을 듯합니다. 아무래도 위즐리는 올봄에 다시 , 가을에 다시 상세 탐구를 한 후 2편을 올리는 게 좋지 않을까 생각도 해 봅니다.
이 거대하고 세심한 정원, 지속가능한 리빙과 생태계와 작가의 디자인적인 아름다움을 동시에 품은 위즐리 가든과 그 주변의 자연환경 까지를 다 다루기에는 좀 아쉬운 면이 많습니다.
이 연구를 위한 방문을 다시 할 수 있는 기회가 있기를 소망하며, 위즐리 편은 후속을 남겨 둡니다.

Merorry of Linda & RHS, Garden of Wisley
Linda from Surrey, she said, "On the way to Wisley, be sure to stop by Surrey Hill < where Queen Elizabeth also visited and celebrated >." Surrey Hills is a National Trust managed National Landscape Area, the second highest area in southeast England, and a breathtaking natural landscape. Wishley Garden, which I visited three seasons ago, is located just beyond Surrey Hill, 294m above sea level when viewed from Ranmore. I decided to stay at Linda's house, which is located on the opposite symmetrical point of the hill, and started my Weasley Garden tour. And there, I had the good fortune to enjoy several unexpected treasure-like private gardens along with the Wisley Flower Show. And under the morning sun, Linda's breakfast time, which was served with colorful breads and drinks on the terrace in front of the house, was a wonderful time to enjoy all the beautiful scenery of Surrey Hill and Lanmore.
Walking through the fields with scenery like those seen in movies such as Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice or Jane Eyre, and strolling around like a village member, unlike viewing the well-organized gardens of the Royal Society, made me fall into the mystery of "a long journey of gardens" and filled the short morning hours with long hours of deep communion.

Another pleasure of traveling through the gardens of a rural village outside London such as Wisley Garden is that you can enjoy small and unique private gardens, street gardens, and forest scenery that you come across on your way to the garden.
The way from Linda's house to Weasley is through the fast highway, Surrey Hill, the forest, and the cute town road.
So, on my third trip to Weasley Gardens, a village garden tour was specially added.
In particular, the garden tour, where Linda's village acquaintance intensively cultivated hostas and grafted Italian garden style onto a tutor-style house and gave each story a story, was a very precious time to directly see the host's passion for gardens and private life. In particular, this place, Lanmore, was a slightly wealthy village with each independent house and garden, and the private gardens and fences or well-kept trees in the village were spectacular.
This time was even more special because of the detailed story explanation by the owner who beautifully maintained the Italian-style manor. Linda's village friend, this person, explained the album he received when he took over the house and the Heathrow he had been growing since, and explained in detail the garden that was featured in the magazine.
After seeing the beautiful village garden and typical English houses in the Tutor style that have been maintained for hundreds of years, we went to see the May forest at Weasley Garden.
Weasley's May 18th was unexpectedly cold, so the entire May garden had not yet bloomed, and the area was also busy constructing irrigation facilities in various places due to the continued dry weather without the famous British showers due to climate change.
Under these circumstances, the introduction of the flower show and garden hosted by the "RHS.org Royal Horticultural Society" at Weasley Garden will be organized by combining the 2016 and 2029 September Shows and the May 2023 visit. Since my first visit, the expansion of the eco-garden and the food market next to the orchard, and the change in the appearance of the British garden due to the absence of the showers that used to fall like blessings every day, have made me think deeply about how gardeners should design climate to respond to this climate change crisis, rather than the beauty of the garden.
On May 18, 2023, Wisley Garden was lush with rhododendrons and green plants, but unexpectedly, several gardens that had been expected had not yet bloomed, showing a slower flowering overall by about 3-4 weeks than usual.
However, since my visit to Wishley in 2016 and 2019, the value of garden design has been added, such as No. 9 Wild Life - Wild Ecology Garden around Wisley Library at Hill Top, No. 10 World Food Garden, and No. 8 -Well Being Life Garden - Living Garden for Home Life, and the value and enjoyment of exploring the design layouts of various garden designers collected by Wishley were great.
This pond designed by Geoffrey Jellicoe and the sculptures displayed throughout the garden in accordance with the flower show were a great help in terms of the various stories, planting, and design harmony and application of each sculpture.
The 2016 Wisley Garden Flower Show not only boasts the excellence and beauty of the entire garden layout, but also offers a variety of new planting models, garden supplies, and application items created by various horticulturalists in Europe when the flower show is held, allowing you to find endless ideas for your garden business.
In addition, the various garden books, garden history, and research materials available at the Wisley Garden Library are also worth stopping by for at least two days for those in the garden field, and it would be good to visit for at least three to four days along with the garden tour.
The 2016 flower show was held in early September, and it was a great time to see how beautifully garden plantings can be made with summer and fall materials, and also to buy all kinds of bulbs that will bloom in the spring at low prices.
The Wisley Library exhibition style provides flower illustrations and information, so you can enjoy the double pleasure of viewing botanical art and researching information.
I can't cover it enough in today's story, but in the second part of Weasley Garden, I would like to cover each work of the world-famous designers who filled Weasley and their compositions in more detail. Since these are materials that I prepare for detailed guidance while teaching students, I focus more on design skills and construction and maintenance points rather than viewing points, so it may be a bit boring. I think it would be better to upload the second part after exploring Wisley in detail again in the spring and fall. This huge and detailed garden, Wisley Garden, which contains sustainable living and ecosystems and the artist's design beauty at the same time, and the surrounding natural environment, are somewhat regrettable.
I hope that I will have the opportunity to visit again for this study, and I will leave the Weasley section as a follow-up.
