2030년의 어느 날, 나의 하루

멋진 신세계

“굿모닝, 일어날 시간이에요.”
새리(Saeri)가 나를 깨우며 오늘의 일정을 간략하게 알려준다. 새리는 인공지능 비서일 뿐만 아니라 늘 나와 함께 하는 가족이다. 오늘의 첫 번째 일정은 아리울의 가장 큰 호수를 따라 달리기다. 이 호수는 아주 깨끗하고 신선한데, 아리울은 화석연료를 전혀 이용하지 않는 친환경 도시이기 때문이다. 호수를 따라 달리는 동안 나는 두 마리의 사슴이 호수에서 물을 마시는 걸 봤다. 내 옆에는 토끼들이 나를 따라 달리고 있다. 별로 특별할 것도 없는, 한결같이 아름다운 아침 풍경이다. 
집에 돌아와 땀을 닦기 위해 샤워를 하려고 했다. 새리가 내 몸에 딱 맞는 물의 온도를 알아서 맞춰 주기 때문에 물의 온도를 조절할 필요도 없다. 샤워를 마치고 나오자 이미 아침식사가 준비되어 있었다. 보기만 해도 침이 고이는 신선하고 맛있는 과일과 채소로 차려진 식탁이다. 새리는 매일 나의 컨디션을 체크해서 나에게 필요한 영양소가 신선한 재료로 식사를 준비한다. 오늘의 아침은 좀 전에 스마트 농장에서 직접 수확해서 배송되어 온 과일과 채소들이다. 갓 딴 채소로 만든 맛있고 건강한 아침밥이다. 

 

지훈이는 S 지역의 개발이 끝난 2030년 어느 날, 자신이 보낸 평범한 하루를 보여주는 글을 쓰기로 했다. 아침부터 저녁까지의 일과를 소개하면서 개발공사가 추구하는 미래 모습을 자연스럽게 일상에 담아낸다는 것이다. 위의 글은 아침에 일어나서 출근 전까지의 일상이다. AI로 조정되는 사물 인터넷, 스마트 농장, 친환경 도시의 모습이 어떻게 구현될지 잘 보여주고 있다. 지훈이의 글이 S 지역의 개발 결과만 말하고 있는 것은 아니다. 

오늘은 독일에서 온 영화제작자들과 미팅이 있다. 독일의 친환경 도시, 프라이부르크(Freiburg)를 홍보할 수 있는 영화 제작을 논의하기 위해서다. 그들은 내가 아리울을 전 세계인에게 알린 영화를 보고 깊은 감명을 받았다고 했다. 그리고 나에게 그와 같은 영화를 함께 만들 것을 제안해 왔다. 나의 첫 번째 영화는 처음에는 비록 홍보 목적으로 만든 영화였지만 아리울의 아름다움과 국제 비즈니스 도시의 편의성을 잘 담아낸 작품성을 인정받아 여러 독립영화제와 다큐멘터리 영화제에서 상을 받았다.
또한 이를 본 전 세계의 수많은 젊은이들이 아리울로 몰려들어 애초에 원했던 홍보도 목표를 훨씬 초과해서 이뤘다. 우리는 프라이부르트와 아리울의 아름다움에 대해서 이야기하느라 시간 가는 줄 몰랐다. 밤새도록 이야기하고 싶었지만 친구들이 공항에 도착할 시간이 되어서 아쉽지만 오늘은 여기에서 마무리해야겠다.

창의력과 상상력이 잘 발휘되었을 뿐만 아니라 문장력과 글쓰기 실력이 잘 어우러진 지훈이의 기사는 동상을 받았다. 그 전해 수상작과 비교해서 뒤지지 않는 수준의 글이라 내심 대상도 기대했던 터라 살짝 아쉬웠다. 그런데 심사평을 보니 첫 번째 대회였던 지난해에 비해 지원작의 양과 질이 모두 크게 향상되었다고 한다. 수상자들 면면도 다들 오랫동안 영어를 열심히 공부한 학생들로 보여 동상도 아주 훌륭한 결과였던 것 같다. 

공식 시상식이 예정되어 있어서 수상 소감도 준비했다. 하지만 코로나로 인해 시상식은 열리지 않았다. 아쉬웠지만 수상 소감 발표는 다음 기회로 미루기로 했다. 앞으로도 기회는 얼마든지 있을 테니까.

Title: A Happy Day in Ariul in 2030

Subtitle: A successful scriptwriter in Ariul closing a deal with international movie producers 

“Good morning. Time to wake up!”

Saeri wakes me up and tells me today’s schedule. Saeri is my family as well as my AI assistant. As my schedule, I’m going to the biggest lake in Ariul to jog around it. This lake is so clean and fresh, because Ariul is eco-friendly city without use of any fossil fuel. While running I see two deer drinking the lake and have a rabbit run with me. It is another beautiful morning in Ariul. 

I come back home and feel like taking a cold shower after sweating from the run. I don’t need to adjust the water temperature since Saeri knows the best temperature for my condition. 

When I finish the shower, I find my breakfast ready with mouth-watering vegetables and fruits. Every morning Saeri checks my body and figures out what I need to eat. Saeri ordered them while I was running and they were delivered directly from the smart farm. The food is very delicious and nutritious.

At 10 A.M. I am going to my work by my car. I bought a self-driving car a month ago. 

“To work.”

It starts driving and finds the best way to go to my company. I read emails while my car is driving. When we get to the work, it parks by itself. 

My company is located in the International Cooperation Area which is the hub of North East Asia. There are many multi-national companies as the International Cooperation Area is very convenient to come and go from most of the countries in the world. 

I am a scriptwriter and I have a meeting with German movie producers today. They want me to shoot a movie to promote their city, Freiburg, a eco-friendly city just like Ariul. I hear their mayor was very impressed by my Ariul promotion movie, and insisted I should make their movie too. My movie contains all the merits and enjoyable things about Ariul. After the movie was released, lots of global companies have showed interests in the International Cooperation Area and the number of tourists visiting Ariul has been tripled up. I explain my plan about the movie and they are satisfied with it. 

When I finish the meeting, my friends call me from the Ariul International Airport. My international friends watched my movie and fell in love with this place. They were eager to come and see Ariul themselves. I get to the one of the biggest hub airports in Asia to pick them up. I take them with my car and start the tour. 

“They are windmills. They generate clean energy without making pollution. We use only new and renewable energy in Ariul and reduced 135,000 ton of greenhouse gas last year. It is equivalent to planting 20 million pine trees in a year.”

When we see the windmills on the sea, I explain the benefits of new and renewable energy to my friends. 

After 15 minutes’ driving, first we get to Manju-Peak one of the most beautiful landmarks in Gunsan. As we reach here, I tell them the legend about the Manju Peak. A Korean scholar was exiled to this place. Even though he was abandoned, he missed the king very much and went up the pick longing for him every day. With that sad story this place looks more beautiful than ever.

Next we go to ride the famous cable car. While we are in the cable car, sun is setting over the sea. It reminds me of the passion that I had when I started writing the script of Ariul promotion movie. My friends are speechless to see the amazing sunset. We also pass by the theme park where we are going tomorrow. The scenery seems like a moment of the movie. 

I take my friends to their hotel in Leisure Tourism Area and come back to my place. I am very proud because my friends like Ariul so much just like they expected. It was a beautiful, satisfying but a little tiring day and I think I need a good rest. Saeri must have read my mind and has hot bath and massage machine ready for me. After the massage, I open the window and watch the stars in the Ariul’s clean sky. I believe Ariul’s future will be as beautiful and bright as the stars that I am watching.
