읽으면 꼭 Business 같다.

칵테일바에 가니 Bee's Knees라는

칵테일이 있었다. 어원을 살펴보니 아래와 같다.

The phrase was first recorded in the late 18th century, when it was used to mean 'something very small and insignificant'. Its current meaning dates from the 1920s, at which time a whole collectionof American slang expressions were coined with the meaning 'an outstanding person or thing'. Examples included the flea's eyebrows, the canary's tusks, and one that still survives - the cat's whiskers. The switch in meaning for the bee's knees probably emerged because it was so similar in structure and pattern to these other phrases.

번역을 간략히 하자면

Bee's Knees라는 말은 18세기 후반에 처음으로 기록이 되었는데, 그때는 '뭔가 작고, 중요하지 않는 것'이라라는 뜻이었다. 그러나 1920년에 들어서 미국의 Flapper라는 잡지에서 다시 정리되었는데 '뭔가 굉장히 뛰어나고 멋진 사람이나 물건'이라는 뜻으로 바뀌었다. 또는 스타일리쉬하거나 아주 뛰어게 멋진 것!

왜냐하면 그 당시에 동물이나 곤충의 부위를 가지고 많은 아래와 같이 다양한 Slang 를 만들었는데 특별한 뜻은 없고, 멋지거나 팬시한 것들을 표현할 때 쓴다고 한다.
