난 얘기할게 없다니까
모니카의 유명한 대사죠. 왜냐구요? 프렌즈의 첫 대사거든요.
It was one of the Monica's famous part. Why? Because it is the first one of Friends.
자긴 별로 이야기하고 싶지 않은데 누가 계속 물어보면 이렇게 말해주면 좋겠죠.
You'd better use this expression when somebody keeps asking about your privacy, which you don't want to talk about.
2. I don't want her to go through what I went through with Carl- oh!
내가 '칼'(이라는 사람)에게 겪은 일을 그녀가 겪지 않기를 바란다.
이 대사는 피비의 대사인데요. 칼이라는 사람이 예전에 분필을 먹었다고 하네요. 경험하다를 go through로 표현하고 있네요.
This was of Pheobe's. Carl, her ex-boyfriend, might have eaten chalk. This sentence refers to experience as 'go through'.
3. Relax this is not even a date.
진정해, 이건 데이트라고 할수도 없어.
모니카가 말합니다. 이건 데이트라고 할 수도 없어. even의 위치에 주목하면 좋을 것 같아요.
Monica said that this was not even a date. Better look at the position where 'even' is.
이렇게도 쓸 수 있겠죠.
You can use the 'even' like this.
이건 음식이라고 할 수도 없어.
This is not even food.
그 사람은 의사도 아니야.
That is not even a doctor.
4. She moved her stuff out today.
오늘 그녀가 짐싸서 떠났어
여기서 she는 주인공의 이혼한 전처, 캐롤(Carol)을 의미합니다.
Here, she refers to the divorced ex-wife of Ross', Carol.
그녀가 짐을 싸서 떠났다고 하네요. 오늘!
This sentences says, she moved out with all of her stuff today.
그래서 로스가 그렇게 기분이 나빴던 거군요.
And that's why Ross was so devastated.
5. Why does everyone keep fixating on that?
왜 모두들 그 부분에만 신경을 쓰지?
이것도 프렌즈로 영어공부를 하는 분들은 거의 아시는 유명한 문장이죠.
This is one of the famous part of Ross, either, which was widely remembered by those who study English with 'Friends'.
사건의 핵심이기도 하고요.
It is a key to understand what's going on here.
사실 이 대사를 처음 들었을 때 fixate라는 단어를 몰랐습니다.
In fact, I didn't know the word of 'fixate' when I heard it at first.
그러나 짐작으로 그 뜻은 추측할 수 있었죠. 왜냐하면 로스는 화가 나 있었거든요. 그리고 모든 사람들에게 불만이 있는 것처럼 보였어요.
But I could guess the meaning. Because, Ross was upset and seemed to have complaint for 'everyone'.
6. She didn't know, how should I know?
그녀도 몰랐다는데 내가 어떻게 알아?
이런 표현도 은근히 쓸 일이 많을 것 같지 않나요?
Doesn't it look like being used a lot?
이렇게도 살짝 바꿔볼 수 있을 것 같아요.
You can change this a bit into the following sentences.
You didn't tell me, how should I know?
니가 말 안하는데 내가 어떻게 알아?
He didn't tell me, how should I know?
그가 나한테 말 안했는데 내가 어떻게 알아?
