추위는 가시고 하늘이 흐릿한 어느 아침에도 커피를 마셨다. 그날, 키오스크 앞에서 머뭇거렸다. 케냐로 갈까나, 과테말라로 갈까나 하고.
나의 선택은 과테말라. 당연히 안티구아(Antigua) 일 거라 여겼는데. 아니다, 산 페드로(San Pedro).
그날의 과테말라 산 페드로 SHB, 샷 추가또 시작이다. 꼬리에 꼬리를 물고 파고 들어간다.
구글 지도를 열고, 과테말라를 찾고, 안티구아를 눈으로 확인한다. 그리고 산 페드로를 찾는다.
커피 원두 이름에는 나라 이름, 지역 이름, 농장 이름, 등급 등을 주로 사용하니, 안티구아나 산 페드로도 지역 이름이라 짐작한다.
과테말라 안티구아 원두는 그 동네의 왼쪽(즉, 태평양 방향)에 위치한 활화산인 푸에고(Volcán de Fuego) 산 근처에서 생산되고, 산 페드로는 과테말라 입장에서의 북부 코반(Coban) 지역의 험준한 산악 지대에서 나온다고 한다. 둘 다 해발은 1,700 ~ 1,800m 수준.
안티구나의 설명에는 늘 스모키, 초콜릿, 바디감이라는 단어가 따라다닌다. 산 페드로에는 달콤한 흑설탕이 더해져 있다. 나는 스모키에 끌렸다. 어떤 맛을 스모키 하다고 표현하는 것인지 궁금해서, 안티구아를 마셨더랬다.
처음 커피를 찾아 마실 적엔 산미가 어떻고, 풍미가 어떻고, 밸런스가 어떻고, 아로마가 어떻고 따지 듯 덤비곤 했다. 이젠 아, 맛있다. 오늘은 진하게, 아니 오늘은 연하게 정도만 고른다. 더불어 차게, 따시게 정도만. 드러내고 설명하기보다 음미하는 것으로 충분히 만족한다.
하늘이 흐릿한 날엔 쓴맛이 쨍한 커피가 땡긴다.
오랜만에 커피 벨트도 찾아봤다. 과테말라랑 자메이카는 위도가 비슷했다. 안티구아는 태평양 바람을, 블루마운틴은 오늘도 대서양 바람을 맞고 있겠군. 잘 자라다오.

My choice was Guatemala. I thought it would be Antigua, of course. Oh no, It was San Pedro.
I started again. I searched and searched.
I opened Google Maps, searched for Guatemala, and saw Antigua with my own eyes. Then I searched for San Pedro.
Coffee bean names often use country names, region names, farm names, and grades. Therefore, I guess Antigua and San Pedro are also region names.
Guatemalan Antigua beans are said to be produced near the active volcano, Volcán de Fuego on the left side of the country (toward the Pacific Ocean). While San Pedro beans come from the rugged mountainous regions of the Coban region in northern Guatemala. Both are at an elevation of 1,700 to 1,800 meters.
The words smoky, chocolate, and body always follow Antiguna’s description. San Pedro has sweet brown sugar added. I was drawn to the smoky flavor. I drank Antigua because I was curious about what kind of flavor was described as smoky.
When I first started looking for coffee and drinking it, I would jump at the chance to ask questions like how the acidity was, how the flavor was, how the balance was, and how the aroma was.
Now, I just say, “Oh, it’s delicious.” Today, I choose strong, no, today, I choose light. And I just choose iced or hot. I’m satisfied enough with savoring it rather than revealing and explaining it.
On a cloudy day, I like strong and bitter coffee.
I visited the coffee belt after a long time. Guatemala and Jamaica are at similar latitudes. Antigua is facing the Pacific wind, and Blue Mountain is facing the Atlantic wind today as well. Please grow well.

寒さは去り、空が曇ったある日の朝にもコーヒーを飲んだ。 キオスクの前でもじもじした。 ケニアに行こうか、グアテマラに行こうかと思って。
私の選択はグアテマラだった。当然、アンティグア(Antigua)だと思ったのに。いや、それはサン·ペドロ(San Pedro)だった。
また始める。次から次へと探しに入る。
グーグルマップを開き、グアテマラを探し、アンティグアを確認する。そして、サンペドロを探す。
コーヒー豆の名前には国名、地域名、農場名、等級などを主に使用する。したがって、アンティグアやサンペドロも地域名だと推測する。
グアテマラのアンティグア豆はその国の左側(太平洋方向)に位置する活火山であるプエゴ(Volcan de Fuego)山の近くで生産され、サンペドロはグアテマラの北部コーバン(Coban)地域の険しい山岳地帯から生産されるという。どちらも標高は1700メートルから1800メートルぐらい。
アンティグナの説明には、いつも「スモーキー」、「チョコレート」、「ボディ感」という単語がつきまとう。サンペドロには甘い黒砂糖が加えられている。私はスモーキーが気になった。どんな味をスモーキーと表現するのか知りたくて、アンティグアを飲んだ。
初めてコーヒーを探して飲んだ時は、酸味がどうだ、風味がどうだ、バランスがどうだ、アロマがどうだというコーヒーの味の評価にはまったこともあった。しかし、今はそうではない。あっ、おいしい。 今日は濃く、いや今日は薄く程度だけ選ぶ。そして温冷程度だけ。今、私はコーヒーについては説明するより吟味することで十分満足している。
空が曇っている日には濃くて苦いコーヒーが好きだ。
コーヒーベルトも検索した。グアテマラ、ジャマイカは緯度が似ていた。アンティグアは太平洋の風を、ブルーマウンテンは今日も大西洋の風を迎えているのだろう。
